Consulate bombing: early morning coverage

At 4:43am, MSNBC bailed out of a commercial break to report Flash News of a consulate bombing. Cheryl Cassone reported the news without video or much substantial information. The report lasted roughly two minutes.

At 4:45am, CNN/US took a CNNI breaking news update with video — it lasted 4-5 minutes.

Fox News Channel did not provide any news until the 5am hour, with a Fox News Alert. They went back to Cavuto less than a minute later.

Also at 5a, CNN did about 4 minutes of reporting with an NYC police phoner. MSNBC began First Look as normal, then Kristine Johnson pitched to WNBC’s live coverage for about 2 minutes.

At 5:07am, MSNBC.com has a breaking news banner, but no details; CNN.com has the same. Nothing on FoxNews.com
