Over at the Romenesko letters page things can get interesting. Keith Olbermann wrote in to comment on an attack of Harry Shearer regarding his blog entry “What is a Journalist?” after another letter writer took the piece to task.
Julia Angwin in the Wall Street Journal has the first real information on the long talked about FOX Business Channel. It’s a complete must read from top to bottom and explains in detail why the launch date keeps getting pushed back (now to the first half of 2006). You can bet the folks at CNBC will are paying attention. (hat tip: Romenesko)
UPDATE: Someone from FOX wrote in to TVNewser calling the story a “non-story” that had nothing new in it. That may well be true, but it’s probably the first time someone has written extensively on the story and tied all the little bits of news, that had been floating around separately for a while, together into one article.
Gail Shister of the Philadelphia Inquirer has an overview of the “new” American Morning which is now all O’Brien all the time… (registration req.)
Howard Kurtz profiles Sheppard Smith in the Washington Post today…
They call him the anti-anchor here in the Fox News building, the sometimes smirking man from Holly Springs, Miss., whom nobody would confuse with Bob Schieffer or Brian Williams. Smith presides over a breathless, mile-a-minute, graphics-laden, video-saturated program that careens from war to missing women to what Smith calls “goofy things.”
TVNewser points out the Newsweek article on the “new” CNN which is a total must read. However, I have to ask why MSNBC is giving free advertising to CNN? Yes, I know Newsweek is a partner with MSNBC (as is the Washington Post) but one would think that MSNBC would want this story spiked off its own website. However maybe MSNBC had no say in the matter…
