Presidential Ratings…

The numbers for last night’s speech are out…

FOX dominated again. As you can see in the numbers below FOX’s demo numbers beat CNN’s overall numbers during the speech. Some strange things happened after the speech though. Both CNN and MSNBC gained viewers from their levels during the speech while FOX suffered a slight decline. One possiblity is that FOX viewers were channel hopping to hear what the other (and presumably for some FOX viewers…more liberal) channels were saying about the speech. Another explanation is an exodus from ABC which cut away at 8:30 on the East Coast only, leaving those viewers with having to find a new channel to get speech analysis.

UPDATE: Some people commented on the numbers for the Presidential debate and asked why the HLN numbers weren’t included (Nancy Grace had a big night during the address). The numbers I received did indeed include numbers for HLN and CNBC but not during the address. So I made an editorial decision to strip out the HLN and CNBC numbers because they weren’t complete for the night.

  1. Why don’t your numbers include #3 network HLN? TVN has it that Nancy Grace had 722,000 viewers, really close to its mother network and knocking MSNBC out of the sky.

  3. It’s simple to explain. FOX didn’t include the numbers because the numbers I received covered only the Presidential address on the cable networks. HLN didn’t cover it.

TVNewser either requested additional numbers from FOX or some other network supplied his numbers. I’m thinking the latter and you can guess which network it probably was….

  4. FNC’s coverage dominated the ratings because it was the best, plain and simple. Brit Hume is top notch and once again did a great job again.

  5. I have warned Fox again and again that they need new younger sharp analysts, but they don’t get it. Though Brit Hume is indeed the best! Need his steady hand at the till.
