Blast Off: T-Plus :30
FOX dumped wall to wall coverage at 11. I caught a report on the War On Terror at 11:05 am. CNN switched to Live From at 11 but led off with O’Brien before going to other news 10 minutes later. MSNBC is still going full bore with Williams and Jansing.

I stuck with MSNBC on the launch today mostly out of habit. Chris Jansing is certainly one of the bright spots and is starting to get the recognition she deserves. If Couric had been thrown into the mix, it would have been undignified and an insult to the brave Americans on that mission.
Before the disasters, shuttles were launched routinely with limited coverage. Americans have become so accustomed to seeing horrifying events on television, that regrettably, the expectation for tragedy has become commonplace. To the casual viewer, NASA may seem like the NBA, with only the final two minutes being really interesting.

Why would Katie Couric as anchor the news coverage be an insult to anyone? I think if you ask each and every astronaut on board who they would prefer to anchor the TV coverage of their mission, all would answer Katie Couric.

I doubt Couric would want to bother with anything shuttle related. She is too busy trying to scoop the next runaway bride type story.
