July’s Numbers: A big month for FOX…

Another big month for FOX News Channel. For the 43rd consecutive month FOX came in first place. On The Record with Greta Van Susteren was the big ratings winner in July, with a viewership increase of 58% to 2,158,000 viewers. This was the second month in a row she came in second behind The O’Reilly Factor.

FOX widened the gap between itself and CNN, an increase of 85% in Prime Time viewership since Jan 2005 and an increase of 46% in Total Day since Jan. 2005. FOX’s total advantage over CNN is 168% in Primetime and 127% in Total Day. FOX was up 28% in the Primetime Demo and up 9% in the Total Day Demo. Overall FOX had a 38% gain in Primetime viewership while CNN dropped 3% during Primetime. FOX now has the top 7 programs on Cable News as Larry King slipped behind FOX’s daytime programming to 8th.

MSNBC suffered an 11% drop in Primetime vs July 2004, probably mostly due to the ratings challenged The Situation. Headline News had a 96% gain in Primetime because of the juggernaut that is Nancy Grace.

Here is the program ranker for July courtesy of FOX News. ICN apologizes for the large graphic but we just found out our blog software won’t upload PDF files…

  1. That’s amazing, it looks like all three prime time programs had over 2 million viewers each. Fox news gets TV ratings like the big cable entertainment networks.

  2. I’d love to see Nancy and Greata go head to head in the 10 PM time slot. That would be really interesting.

  3. Amazing, Nancy went from # 25 to # 15.

EXACTLY! FNC is NEWSTAINMENT NOT NEWS!

  5. All news networks report news. Do you think somehow FNC wasn’t reporting news during this plane crash? They all did the same thing, with different people. FNC is ahead of the curve, the other networks haven’t caught on yet. The only exception would be HLN which is doing phenomenal compared to before…Give the viewers what they want, which leads to better ratings. Thats why CNN/MSNBC are in such bad shape, trying to please the few people who cry “I want 1980’s style news delivery”.

  6. Reporting NEWS IS NOT, opinion, commentary and TALK RADIO ON TV. It’s having reporters reporting the FACTS and viewers making up their own minds. FNC viewers are brainwashed into thinking what FNC provides is NEWS. It’s not!! It’s TALK RADIO ON TV!!!

    But is the quality better?

  8. My quality is always good. I watch different networks at various times. I find certain things about all the networks I like. If there’s breaking news i’ll look for who has the best coverage and watch. I don’t play favorites, except for Your World Today and Primenews Tonight.

  9. I wonder who the next President of CNN will be? With ratings like CNN’s in July, it won’t be long before another one bites the dust.

  10. CNN’s next disaster is just around the corner…all those old men in the afternoon? Yikes. Wolf Blitzer, Jack Cafferty and Bill Schneider? Somebody wake me when’s it’s all over!!

  11. FOX News actually has more news in the “FOX Report” than CNN has in the entire day. CNN’s ratings reflect what it shows, which is simply crap.

  12. CNN’s highest rated show is LKL, he is signed until 2009. How much can we take? PZ,LKL,AB. Brown is like an undertaker at a funeral. CNN’s problem is they don’t look towards the future. And don’t fix the present, CNN had problems before Klein. The same prime time was in effect when he started in November. It sucked then and still does!

  13. I keep asking the same boring question. How long is MSNBC going to hang on to Connected?? It has lower July ratings than The Situation. Someone is keeping his head in the sand regarding this loser. Ron Reagan - yikes!

    Comment by Cara — August 3, 2005 @ 10:34 am

  14. Connected and Ron Reagan are terrible! Reagan needs to go back to ballet dancing! But, I heard he sucked at that too.

    Comment by Terance — August 3, 2005 @ 10:57 am

  15. Greta, why don’t you ask the parents and relatives of this girl if they have tried a psychic? Seems that hasn’t even been thought of. Maybe a psychic will find their missing daughter. We see it all the time on court t.V., so why not do it with this case?
