  1. Great! Someone on another board started a rumor he was having second thoughts. Glad to hear it was just a rumor. I am dying to see him on Fox!

  2. He has certainly not had second thoughts, he’s with the real winners now! He’s going to be a great addition to the most powerful name in news. Fair, balanced and unafraid! It’s amazing what a change can do. Before Greta joined FOX her numbers were non existent, now she regularly beats all of CNN’s lineup. Paula Zahn, whom left FOX is always in the ratings gutter.

  3. Good luck to Bill.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 4:05 pm

  4. Oh boy FNC will have another teleprompter reader on the air. Bill will be reading the…what will he be reading? Certainly not NEWS!

    Comment by Anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 4:24 pm

  5. A little touchy there, “anonymous” #4. CNN let him go; that was their mistake. By the way, don’t CNN’s anchors read teleprompters too? Oh wait, with all the budget cutbacks over there, maybe they’ve reverted to handwritten cue cards!

Hemmer will have a ton more viewers on Fox than he got at the other place. Cream rises to the top.

  6. # 5 you didn’t counter the NEWS aspect of the post. Certainly not much NEWS on Fox NEWS channel. And BTW it was hemmer’s decision to leave. CNN offered him a position in which better suits him. Hemmer is an awful anchor, better reporter. Too bad he stooped to joining fnc. But he will fit right in with all the other deer in the headlight’s looking anchors and anchorettes.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 5:16 pm

  7. CNN offered Bill the head WH correspondent job and he declined the position and then decided to quite CNN. And what a foolish move on CNN’s part it was to let him go cause after watching Heidi Collins this week on Aaron Brown it’s crystal clear they have no on-camera people with any star potential.

    Comment by Gene — August 23, 2005 @ 5:20 pm

  8. You don’t need STARS! Let NEWS be the STAR! It worked once and it can again. Get away from the anchor/host/hostess whatever you want to call them focused programs. That is what’s wrong with cable news. Too many people wanting to be stars.

Hemmer was good as a reporter and sucked as an anchor/teleprompter reader. If an employee doesn’t want to do the job his boss thinks he is best at well then leave.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 5:33 pm

  9. I agree with you about Hemmer.

The NEWS will never be the star again…The times have changed and its not 1985 anymore. The sooner you realize this, the less time you’ll waste with the same posts everyday….

  10. TVNewser: “For some strange reason, FNC’s media relations department leaked the news to ICN, even the blog’s traffic is paltry.” He’s the Fox News of blogs :)

    Comment by Mathieu Plante — August 23, 2005 @ 5:48 pm

  11. Clueless #4, 6 & 8 is sure a bitter person. For years the mainstream media (NBC/ABC/CBS) brainwashed ignorant fools . Then came FOX, the demise of the mainstream media. Now we the intelligent viewers have choices and we exercise them. We want news that is FAIR & BALANCED with anchors that are proud to be American and not rooting against us. I would be bitter too, if my opinions and distortions of the news were challenged. FOX is # 1, like it or not! None of the millions of FOX viewers care, what one bitter brainwashed
person has to say. Go watch the Communist News Network, you happen to call CNN.

    Comment by GOP Dave — August 23, 2005 @ 5:49 pm

  12. YEP..TVN is the Fox news of blogs. And take it from me he thinks he is the cable news blog policeman. He thinks just because he is going to school to get a DEGREE he is “it”. Well I know some folks with college degrees in journalism and they know nothing.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 5:53 pm

  13. Number 11–NEWS can neither be Fair or Balanced. When the FACTS, that’s facts, not opinion, commentary, or anything else, are reported in the form of a STORY, not talked about, they will stand on their own merit. BUT with FOX, your “we talk about the ‘news’ channel,” brings on people with differing opinions, they try to make it look fair and balanced. It’s all in the mind. Fox viewers have been brainwashed and are unable to make up their own minds so they have to have someone tell them what to speak. NOT ME! This white boy is tooooo smart to let anyone tell me what to think.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 6:03 pm

  14. #4, do you read newspapers? Look at page A2 of the Washington Post today. Fox breaks more news than CNN and MSNBC.

    Comment by Ms. Anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 6:08 pm

  15. “Certainly not much NEWS on Fox NEWS channel.”

That’s a laughable comment after FNC cleaned CNN’s clock with the Gaza coverage.

“FOX brings on people with differing opinions”

Who doesn’t? Even McNeil/Lehrer did that.

“You don’t need STARS! Let NEWS be the STAR! ”

When news is the star, the anchors follow closely behind as people get used to them and their styles. That’s how FNC took the #1 spot–not just in nighttime op-ed programming, but throughout daytime straight news as well. The most powerful name in news!

    Comment by johnny dollar — August 23, 2005 @ 6:10 pm

  16. #15 BULL HOCKEY..JD is full of it just like all the folks at fox. Once again FNC brings on people with differing opinions to tell a story. That’s not the gathering of FACTS..to tell the story.(aka news) The 2 differing opinions does not offer the viewer THE WHOLE STORY. It just offers viewers the guest’s opinion. Why is fox tops in the ratings? Because it is nothing more than a GOP campaign machine. Look at its leader. A big wig GOP’er. It basis everything around politics. It could be a story about dog poop and it would try and determine if the dog was a democrat of republican. FNC would not exist if it was not for politics. And it always goes after that angle. FNC the most powerful name in SMUT.

    Comment by Anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 6:28 pm

  17. #16 You need to get some air and turn off the tv forever. If a Democrat is elected next term, FNC will STILL be the NEWS leader. I would suggest you find something else to occupy time. Do you think somehow the Nielson boxes are only in Republican’s houses? Even you have to be smarter than that. What does that say? It means people from both sides watch the channel MORE than the other ones. Why do they watch it? Because they want to. Maybe you should watch baseball and find a winning team. Because you will never be in the playoffs with this attitude!

    Comment by the REAL anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 6:37 pm

  18. #4 Bitter party of one viewer. If the news is the story, FOX has clearly beat all your sources for news. Fair and Balanced means, opinion from various angles is sought. None of your sources can lay claim to that. Your opinions are clearly that of someone who does NOT understand or can comprehend any other thought process. You are a biased one sided brainwash victim of the distorted and biased mainstream media. The most powerful name slogan comes from the amount of viewers FOX has. Far more than CNN, HLN, MSNBC anc CNBC combined!!!! Regardless of what you would like anyone to believe, FOX is # 1 get it through that thick head of yours. End of story!

  19. GOP Dave, you forgot to mention The Weather Channel. They’re radical left wing meteorologists who tell the weather.

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 6:58 pm

  20. maybe murdoch needs to put a weather channel on the air. they’d probably make janice their head fox caster. janice dean…what a goofball..i think we know how she got her job…wasn’t because she has any talent OR crendentials.

  21. For FNC’s detractors who quite clearly have never WATCHED FOX News Live, let me bring you a quick breakdown…

There is PLENTY of news. They go through a ton of it. But they also have time for debate and discussion. FOX News Live generally goes like this…

    - Jon Scott, who anchors from 9 am ’till 10:30, generally does interviews focused very specifically on the top, “hard” news stories of the day.
    - Bridgitte Quinn, who anchors from 10 ’till about noon, still does hard news interviews, but also does some “general interest” interviews.
    - David Asman, who anchored from 11:30 am until 1 pm, did more political interviews. All of this between rundowns of the top stories of the day, and reports from FNC’s corrospondants.

It’ll be interesting to see what Bill Hemmer’s focus will be.

    Comment by Charles — August 23, 2005 @ 10:02 pm

  22. And don’t forget a fox news alert every 5 seconds. That just about sums up FNC’s entire day! FEAR, live in FEAR for they’re terrorists among us. Just look for the guy without an american flag lapel pen. Then take the advice of Pat Robertson AND SHOOT HIM!

    Comment by anonymous — August 23, 2005 @ 10:57 pm

  23. Anonymous, I’d like you to prove that FNC says that. If you don’t mind, that is.

    Comment by Charles — August 24, 2005 @ 10:05 am

  24. So is Bill going to get obnoxious plastic surgery like Greta did? We he also be reporting on all the drama like the holloway case and ignoring the real issues Americans face everyday? FOX is having its hayday, but Americans are starting to see through their BS. Slick onliners do not make the news.

    Comment by Toby — August 24, 2005 @ 4:34 pm

  25. Clear signs of bitterness here. Reminds me of all the losers at Move on, Code Pink, NOW, Naral and all the other countless mindless and especially meaningless organizations that America can see right through. FOX is #1. Get over it! or Move on!

    Comment by GOP Dave — August 24, 2005 @ 4:51 pm

  26. The real question is, will Bill Hemmer be wearing contacts or glasses? My guess is contacts! Because he’s been crying because Kimberly Guilfoyle was seen tweaking Dan Abrams nipple!

    Comment by Terance — August 24, 2005 @ 5:53 pm

  27. Life for GOP Dave is simple: Slurp up hand fed propaganda, reproduce it in the echo chamber, masturbate while fantasizing about one party domination. Clean up, repeat.

    Comment by furry anonymouse — August 24, 2005 @ 7:55 pm

  28. to 24. toby - bill hemmer wont need plastic surgery when he’s hitting 90. do i detect a little green eyed monster.

    Comment by liz dereich — August 24, 2005 @ 8:20 pm

  29. Well- I am thrilled that he will be starting on FOX Monday. CNN made a big mistake to let him and a host of others get away. BTW- I read that he had laser eye surgery over the summer - so that should answer the speculation about glasses.

    Comment by linda — August 26, 2005 @ 11:22 pm

  30. I did like Bill Hemmer but will NOT be watching him on Fox.
“Fair and Balanced” is more good-looking, short skirts, low cut blouses, and cutesy. This is not the news I want.
I thought Bill could be another Tom Brokaw or Dan Rather; instead he'’l wind up another Geraldo.

    Comment by P Gilbert — August 29, 2005 @ 11:01 am

  31. It was so quiet over the summer. I kept wondering where Bill would show up. I used to be a faithful American Morning person, mostly due to Bill. CNN has lost me. Miles O’Brien? WTF? And moving Cafferty? CNN has lost me for good.

I was never a FOX person. Too right, I thought. But Hemmer’s presence will make me watch - and H said Ailes didn’t give him an agenda.

Hey #30, the verdict isn’t out yet. I get the feeling Bill will carve the exact niche he wants. We haven’t seen the likes of it yet. Just watch.

BTW, I’m going to miss the glasses. Go Bill and congrats. We’ve missed you. It was a cruel, cruel summer/Leaving me (us) here on my own…
