Government gives up in court case…
CNN has won its lawsuit against FEMA because the Federal Government gave up trying to fight it…(via WHAC)
Rather than fight a lawsuit by CNN, the federal government abandoned its effort Saturday to prevent the media from reporting on the recovery of the dead in New Orleans.
Joint Task Force Katrina “has no plans to bar, impede or prevent news media from their news gathering and reporting activities in connection with the deceased Hurricane Katrina victim recovery efforts,” said Col. Christian E. deGraff, representing the task force.

bravo cnn!!!! THIS NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED– AMERICANS HAVE A BAD HABIT OF FORGETTING DETAILS.
WHEN THE HURRICANE KATRINA COMMISION IS SET UP– THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO SHOW ( PICTURES ) THAN SOME MESSED UP BUILDINGS AND SOME UNHAPPY PEOPLE GETTING ON BUSES.
IF WE LET THE GOVERNMENT GET AWAY WITH NOT SHOWING THE ACTUAL DEATH AND UTTER DESTRUCTION OF HUMAN BEINGS — THEY WILL SPIN IT INTO–” WE GOT MOST EVERYBODY OUT”
SINCE THERE WILL BE NO PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY– BUSH/FEMA WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR TRULY ATROCIOUS REACTION AND HANDLING OF THE FLOOD.
I SAY SHOW EVERY DEAD BODY– AND LET BUSH EXPLAIN HOW IT WAS RAY NAGINS FAULT THERE WAS NOBODY THERE UNTIL FRIDAY!

There will be enough blame to go around to all who deserves it. I believe that officials were simply trying to exercise some sensitivity to those still searching for loved ones by not showing bodies floating in the water. This is not the same (as Cal Thomas contends) as showing the coffins of servicemen and women coming back from Iraq and Afganistan. The Bush bashers are clearly showing themselves by making statements that are often inaccurate.
Folks I talk to in Tidewater in both the military and public service sector are saying that the media and especially cable news have been very critical of federal efforts in assisting victims of Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans. These are really two separate events that occurred within 48 hours. Some have pointed out that on Monday evening, following the worst of the hurricane, cable news signaled an all clear by stating that New Orleans “had dodged a bullet.” Viewers, including those in the affected areas, went to bed thinking the worst was over. When the accounting of blame for delays is tallied, cable news needs to take its lumps along with everyone else.
