Frisking Bill O’Reilly…

The Huffington Post’s Bob Cesca runs a truth squad blog entry on Bill O’Reilly from Monday night’s show…

First, O’Reilly had the falafel-sized gonads to say that the poverty rate in this country is lower under President Bush than it was under President Clinton. According to the Census Bureau, the percentage of people living below the poverty line DROPPED from around 15 percent in 1993 to just above 11 percent by the year 2000. That’s a 4 percent drop in Clinton’s eight years.

…………………………

Almost in the same breath, O’Reilly noted that because of Bush’s tax cuts, tax revenue has somehow increased. He justified it with a half-baked O’Reilly For Idiots version of supply-side economics. The only reason tax revenue under Bush appears to be higher is because it started high at the end of Clinton’s term. But since Bush’s tax cuts in 2001, tax revenue has steadily declined, with only 2004 seeing an ever-so-slight increase from the year before.

  1. Is anyone surprised? O’Reilly gets caught lying all the time. I’d be more surprised if he actually told the truth!

  3. Wake that is such an unfair assessment. I think this blog is fairly balanced in its criticism of all the cable networks and the various commentators. I have seen the author of this blog also defend Fox when articles are blatantly biased against the network so any criticism of which way this site “leans” is unfair and irrational.

  4. Oh and in his talking point memo i beleive he stated spending was up under Bush for entitlement for the poor and such. He was sure not to say the poverty has lessened, it has gone up 4 years in a row. Nice to see the opposing sources are truthful ha.
Oh and you have been deceived AGAIN that tax thing they were mentioning being “lied” about he said Bush made more tax revenue “this year” than any time in the Clinton Administration due to the unexpected 100 billion dollars they recieved.
I still would like to know which program Bush supposedly cut that Clinton breifly mentioned before moving on.
That my friend is very false.
Please check into soemthing for exact words before you post it you just look FOOLISH. that should be the theme of todays talking points memo.

  5. well they are posting lies i checked the archieve and well here:
“Federal tax revenues will be more this year than at any time during the Clinton administration!” now during the recap he said more under Bush but he was very percise in his analysis.
    here:
“Again, here are the facts. Black homeownership is up 2 percent under President Bush. Poverty spending is significantly higher under Bush than it was under Clinton. Educational spending for poor school districts is higher under Bush. And the poverty rate stood at 13.7 percent halfway through Clinton’s tenure. It is 12.7 percent halfway through Bush’s two terms.” no poverty is down, spending is up and home ownership is up.
So i see 2 lies and 1 conviently overlooked point that Bill did make.
