MSNBC first on Miller?
A tipster wrote in to say that MSNBC was the first cable news outlet to report that Judith Miller had been released from jail for refusing to identify a source in the Plame leak investigation. The tipster said that MSNBC reported the news at the 8pm hour with information from the Philadelphia Enquirer. NBC’s Pete Wiliams was also brought in on the story. Can anyone confirm that MSNBC was first?
UPDATE: FTVLive says CBS aired the story. I can’t tell from the entry whether they broke it or not.

Tucker just said “As first reported by MSNBC.”

I had MSNBC on at the end of Hardball just before Countdown came on. The news was first reported at the very end of Hardball–just a few minutes before show’s end–Chris Matthews actually interrupted his guests to make room for it. Then he went back to his guests for about a minute before throwing it over to Keith Olbermann and Countdown. It was the leadoff story on Countdown and the closing “#1″ story–obviously some prescripted material got shuffled around to make room for it. While covering it as the leadoff story, Olbermann mentioned that the Philadelphia Inquirer Web site was reporting the identity of her source, and toward the end of the show, he added the additional cite from the New York Times as to the identity of the source.

It was Rita Cosby. She was first seen stalking the jail cells breathlessly shouting something about her “exclusive” search for Miller, and then was spotted hugging the bumper of a car as it sped away from the jail. In the car was the cleaning person from the prison, aka Cosby’s “prison sources” who are “close to the warden”.

I was joking, but it totally could have been true which is the most amusing part of all.
