Neil Cavuto profile…

Newsday’s Richard Galant has a profile of Your World’s Neil Cavuto that’s much deeper than your typical profile…(via FTVLive)

Cavuto attributes some of his ratings gain to Fox News’ overall success in attracting viewers and some to his approach to business news.

“A lot of times business news is presented as if it’s aimed at the smartest kid in the class,” Cavuto says. “It might not shock you to know I was never the smartest kid in the class.”

A Flushing native who spent his early years in Westbury, the 47-year-old anchor recalls his father’s advice: “Neil, stay humble. In your case, it’s going to come in handy.”

Cavuto’s self-deprecatory style (he makes fun of the size of his head and his fondness for Yodels and other baked goods) tends to obscure the fact that he’s smarter than he would have you believe. In fact, he’s smart like, well, a fox for being one of the few business journalists on television who’s been able to transcend a narrow niche of viewers.

And since Cavuto is the network’s VP and managing editor of business news, his approach may contain clues to how Fox would program a separate business news channel, a move that Rupert Murdoch, the head of Fox’s parent News Corp., has long been planning.

  1. Cavuto’s show is about business news? Heck everytime I turn on there they are ‘talking’ about everything but business.

  2. Cavuto does great interviews with business leaders and each time I tune in it’s always about business news.
