The Situation Room goes Primetime…

I just got home and turned on CNN expecting Cooper and found Blitzer. Very interesting. This sparks a whole slew of questions for me…

- Was this planned in advance or was it dictated by events (Alito/Libby/etc..)?
- If it was planned in advance what does that mean for Newsnight this week if Brown is off (according to info on TVNewser)? Is Cooper doing Newsnight only and The Situation Room is filling in for 360?
- Is CNN in danger of reaching a “Blitzer saturation point” with its viewers that could damage The Situation Room as an individual program identity if it’s all over the place? And is that bordering on gimick status rather than a news program?

  1. This was planned. During the day they promoed that it would be a special edition of the situation room. It could mean other things but they were promoting it.

  2. They, CNN, have been promoting this since Saturday. TSR will be on ALL WEEK as Anderson is now in his 2nd week of vacation.

Since both AC and AB are OFF THIS WEEK, Newsnight will run for one (1) hour ALL week, 10pm-11pmET with substitute anchor,

TVNewser ran an alarming post early in the day, realized his mistakes and then posted a CLARIFICATION later which nobody seemed to have read.

  3. I read it. It’s still pretty alarming…

  4. It’s CNN, the highly valued “appointment viewer” doesn’t matter to them. They just throw whichever into whatever and hope that something will click now that they’ve lost all their hurricane viewers. Tick Tock, Jonathan Klein, tick tock.

  5. Gets back it shouldn’t matter who is on the air as long as it’s news that’s the star. If you tune in for just the anchor then you’re watching for the wrong reason. Watch to be informed not to be turned on.

  6. #5 CNN has already peaked (ratings wise) with viewers that like to watch dull, stiff, anchors. That’s why they don’t have higher ratings. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the anchor who delivers the news. With so many choices, why watch someone who doesn’t interest you in the least? This isn’t 1980 anymore, things change. EVERYTHING evolves, the quicker you realize that you’ll understand what the new NEWS is all about!

  7. I don’t mind any of the CNN guys, as long as it isn’t Daryn Kagan!
