CNN fires switchboard operator over “X” incident…?

Bill Quick at Daily Pundit is reporting that CNN has fired a Turner switchboard operator who had been fielding calls complaining about the “X” that appeared on Dick Cheney’s face.

UPDATE: 6:18 PM, PT 11/23/05: Call Authentic, CNN Fires Rep:

I just got off the phone with Laurie Goldberg, Senior Vice President for Public Relations with CNN. Her statement confirms the authenticity of the tape recording and reveals the actions CNN took after learning of the incident:

“A Turner switchboard operator was fired today after we were alerted to a conversation the operator had with a caller in which the operator lost his temper and expressed his personal views — behavior that was totally inappropriate. His comments did not reflect the views of CNN. We are reaching out to the caller and expressing our deep regret to her and apologizing that she did not get the courtesy entitled to her. ”

  1. I wonder who the “complainers” were? Probably folks that don’t watch CNN in the first place. I too would lose my cool talking to the right wing nuts!!

  2. Did anyone see how FTVlive exageratted the title of this person. Calling the person a “Technical Director”….yeah right. See how the press really stretches stuff. Journalism doesn’t exist anymore.

  3. CNN fires an operator for inappropriate behavior and yet they applaud Jon Klein for his ruining the company. Makes perfect sense to me.

  4. #2…journalism hasn’t existed ever since Faux News hit the airwaves…

  5. Jeeze…I just saw FTVLive’s entry. Not only did he call the guy a technical director but he says I’m quoting Laurie Goldberg when it’s not me at all. I think I know why too…because I quoted the entire Daily Pundit update, including the word “update” and I think he mistakenly thinks the update came from me.

  7. I’m surprised that anyone would think they could find original reporting on this blog.

  8. Original or not, this is a great place to talk about ridiculous stories like this.

    Another black eye for CNN.
