Aaron Brown after CNN….
Liz Smith got Brown to have lunch with her…
“I don’t know exactly what I will do,” he mused as a succession of media visitors came to interrupt us and ask where they might register their outrage at his “NewsNight” cancellation — among them ABC veteran visionary Av Westin and Fox TV’s Roger Ailes. Aaron expressed admiration for the manner in which Fox beats the pants off its competitors. “They are the most on-target, disciplined bunch I’ve ever seen!” he told Roger. And we talked with one man who said he was a journalism teacher from the Midwest. He professed much admiration for Aaron, who has had a long career — at ABC under Roone Arledge in “the good old days.” Then Aaron made his mark with the heartfelt emotional coverage he did for CNN during 9/11 from a Manhattan rooftop. “I will never forget your magnificent work in those terrible days,” said the teacher.

I’ve never really cared for AB or his style.
But, whenever someone acknowledges FNC’s ratings without attributing it to “right wing politics” or “opinion, commentary, and speculation”. They’ve earned respect in my book.

Tell that to all the lunactic “Brownies” out there. It’s like, (god forbid), the man died. Some of the “fans” can’t even conceive of the fact that Brown may not return to television for quite awhile if at all. Some of the blogs and fan sites are almost surreal. I happened to think what CNN did was outrageous and I was a Nwesnight watcher and think Brown is a great journalist but the world still turns. I wish him well and hope that he does not ever go to FNC because i think he can do better if and when he decides.

I guess I’m one of those “brownies”…I can’t wait until he’s back on the air. I used to be strickly CNN, but if Brown shows up on FNC, then they’ll have a new fan (OMG I never thought I’d ever say that, hehehe).
CNN failed to see that Aaron had a large adamant fan base, and which ever network picks him up will see the benefit of having an anchor that already has a “lunatic” following.

to reader; what will you do when Brown doesn’t come back to tv, just curious.

I miss AB. Now that he’s gone I have to take those Ambiem sleeping pills that always use to be advertised on his program. Good RIDDANCE!!! He might have been a good journalist BUT he put me to sleep dragging things on and on and on. Like #2 said life goes on.

Well, since Aaron left CNN, I’ve just been getting my news on the internet, newspapers (for local news), and from time to time CNN daytime. If he never gets back on the air, of course I’ll miss his unique style, but the best source for news these days is the internet, especially when your campus has a computer lab around every corner and a school-wide wireless network.
But if Brown ever pops up on tv again, I’ll be there watching, no matter what network it is.

That club full of Brownies still exist? They must be going nuts without their “Aaron fix” every night, oohing and aahing over the hundreds of daily pics.Yep..they were really into the news part of the program..not!

Since Aaron Brown left CNN, we now watch MSNBC. His news was consise and informative. Now we have 30 minutes on one subject. Please let us know where he will be newscasting so we can switch to that channel.

You should not let Aaron Brown go. Anderson Cooper is all right and did a good job covering the disaster in New Orleans, BUT this should NOT push Aaron Brown out. They each have a unique style and deserve their own hour…Anderson does NOT need two hours. Please bring Aaron Brown back. We miss him and his approach to the news.

Brown’s “Brownies are all a bunch of little old ladies judging by their names: Phyllis, Darleen, Marlene, Joy and Kay on some of these blogs. If they have such large numbers than why were his tanking when he got fired? You don’t here fellow journalists singing his praises either. And this was the guy, remember, who continued to play golf after the space shuttle went down. People have told me he was a first class jerk. These little old battleaxes haven’t a clue. ANyway, I was tired of looking at his terrible hair weave and that strange dye job with the white sideburns. Here he was, pathetically trying to look young when a younger guy came around with grey hair and replaced him. Oh the sweet irony of it all!

Don’t know if anyone is still reading this…I just found it today. Washington Journal read part of a transcript from a speech Aaron Brown gave in Palm Beach today. I sent an e-mail to CNN venting my outrage at the cancellation of Newsnight the day they cancelled. We never missed Keith Olberman or Aaron Brown. Well…kudos to those who love coverage of Scott Peterson, Natalee Holloway, Michael Jackson etc. / they need their “Enquirer” fix every day I guess and they shouldn’t have any trouble finding it as that’s just about the only kind of “news” the cable “news programs” are offering. When will some network head wake up and give thought to the fact that there is an audience out there (actually a huge one)for thoughtful, concise and contradictory NEWS coverage? If that ever happens, they will give FOX a run for their money. Wake Up! Yes, there was an audience of loyal viewers for the kind of right wing spin FOX offers…there’s an audience out there just waiting for someone to have the courage to offer an alternative.
SOK…January 27, ‘06

Why did Aaron Brown get fired?

From way back in the late seventies on the coast I admired the style and judgement/character of one Aaron Brown. What a case of really bad judgement to trade Mr. Brown for Anderson Cooper. That is Barnum and Bailey to replace the likes of Shakespear or Kurt Vonnegut. CNN is somewhat like the people in the South Dakota small town School Board who had a community book burning and included Mr. Vonneguts Slaughterhouse Five as fuel for the fire. Way to go CNN. Had Mr. Turner still been the directive force such a mistake would never have occured.

Aaron Brown is an insightful, professionl, thoughtful and provoking journalist. Much better than anything CNN has on now. CNN has lost me. I don’t want entertainment. I want good news, and professional journalism which Brown imparted to the viewers.

I am a highly educated professional business man who liked
Aaron Brown. He was insightful and we understood his speech completely. CNN made a huge mistake when they let him go so we do not watch AC360 but FOX and MSNBC are pretty good. AC360 makes me sick with the ultimate stupid line “keeping them honest…” Personally, I haven’t seen much “honest” in his statements of keeping them honest. How about CNN being
honest and bringing back Aaron Brown. Return Mr. Anderson Cooper back to his Vanderbilt fortunes which is probably the reason he got the job in the first place.

I miss Aaron Brown: gentle irony and sharp wit. He had the manners of an old time courtier who never lacked humour, saw ironybut used it caringly, so that when he made a hit, it stuck, and there were no further words needed. I miss his brand of journalism, which was not for sensationalism but given as the account of a journalist who felt comfortable in his own skin, and did not have to rely on novelty and hype. We no longer have hsi brand of reporting, and I think itʻs not to the credit of his successors, although I donʻt dislike Anderson Cooper, who has shown himself to be fair-minded, sincere and remarkably honest. But was it Anderson Cooperʻs vanderbilt wealth that c caused him to replace Aaron Brown? If so, I regret it, because we need different kinds of people reporting the news –both kinds the Browns and the Coopers to get perspectives and values without the hype of a Fox Channel.
