CNN: 58,063,000
FNC: 51,755,000
MSNBC: 51,557,000P25-54
CNN: 27,199,000
MSNBC: 25,666,000

CNN left out that MSNBC beat them in the 25-54 demo in the 7 PM and 8PM hours. 8 PM is primetime, that must hurt.

There’s the desperation card, CUME!

What exactly does CUME stand for?

How can CNN be taking victory laps on ratings when they didn’t beat Fox in anything, and they lost to MSNBC during two key hours for the month? They spin so hard and fast it’s like listening to the whir of a blender.

CUME is the number of different or unduplicated households or persons that are exposed to a television program or commercial at least once during the average week for a reported time period according to Nielsen Media.

A bit more on Cume … More people actually tune into CNN than FNC. FNC has higher hourly ratings because even though less people actually watch FNC, they stay tuned to FNC for longer durations, which props up its hourlies. I believe the average view time for CNN is 6 minutes, and about 12 hours a day for FNC viewers. I may be exagerating on the FNC number. This is one of the reasons CNN still charges a heck of a lot more for a commercial. An Ad on CNN reaches more people than an Ad on FNC.
