MSNBC’s “Olympic halo effect”..?
TVNewser notes MSNBC’s Hardball beating The Situation Room in the P25-54 Demo in February. However CNN doesn’t see this as a trend but an abberation…
Every single month since the Situation Room launched at 7pm it has beaten Hardball in the P25-54 demo— the MSNBC ratings for February are nothing more than a halo effect from the Olympics.
Here is a side by side Demo comparision since The Situation Room launched…
Nov 05 7pm P25-54
The Situation Room 184,000
Hardball 164,000
Dec 05 7pm P25-054
The Situation Room 150,000
Hardball 133,000
Jan 06 7pm p25-54
CNN The Situation Room 151,000
MSNBC Hardball 134,000

The last time MS beat CNN was a couple years ago in 2003; time will tell if this is a trend.

Hi. MSNBC was 20,000 viewers away from CNN in November, then they were 17,000 viewers away in both December and January. MSNBC then beat CNN in February. That’s called a trend, and it has nothing to do with the Olympics.

MSNBC beat CNN in that demo in 2004. It’s a trend

I don’t think the data is there yet to call it a trend. If MSNBC beats CNN in the demo in that hour in March then it’s a trend. If MSNBC falls below CNN again, then there was no trend.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.
