Gibson on the ratings…

Johnny Dollar has the audio of John Gibson from his radio show where he talks about the February ratings. Note to Dollar: Um…what MSNBC taunts? Gibson doesn’t mention any MSNBC taunts…

CLARIFICATION: When I said that Gibson doesn’t mention any MSNBC taunts, I was trying to say that Gibson doesn’t cite any taunts MSNBC has made. He does mention specific taunts CNN has made regarding the ratings but MSNBC has not made any specific taunts against Gibson’s FNC show. And Gibson doesn’t mention any taunts MSNBC has made on his show other than to say MSNBC has taunted them. I say, where’s the MSNBC taunt John that has provoked you to compare the ratings for your show to theirs? I don’t see it. Seems like a non-sequitur to me.

Olbermann has taunted O’Reilly about his “older audience” after O’Reilly mentioned Olbermann’s lower ratings but Olbermann hasn’t said anything about Gibson’s ratings and Gibson doesn’t cite Olbermann’s O’Reilly taunt (or note that O’Reilly started the ratings taunting in response to Olbermann’s continued assault on O’Reilly). In any case Olbermann’s taunting of O’Reilly (and visa versa) has nothing to do with Gibson’s show and his ratings since Countdown doesn’t compete with The Big Story.

  3. Isn’t it politically incorrect to go after an age group? Or are seniors unprotected?

But even if O’Reilly’s audience is 10 years older, on average, than Countdown’s, O’Reilly still has almost three times as many viewers in the “demo” (454K vs. 163K, per TV Newser).

  5. “Isn’t it politically incorrect to go after an age group? Or are seniors unprotected?”

In the world of spin that is PR, it seems to me the rule is “anything goes”. Not saying that’s good or bad. Just the way it is…

  6. The only comment I wish to make on this is that I find it quite disturbing that a news organization would find it fit to allow it’s anchors/hosts/whatever discuss their ratings on air.

I don’t believe any respectable news organization should discuss such matters as this on their air.

Release press briefs to the written press and go on Oprah and talk about it, but please, don’t mix this trivial crap in with news.

That goes for the all… FOX, CNN and MSNBC.

  7. I find the people it’s too easy to recognize the people that watch fnc. They always have to have the last word, always talking about themselves and always beating others down. All of their viewers/listners need therapy.

  8. FNC doesn’t know how to promote itself other than to talk about its ratings…as if ratings might makes right. They just don’t get it. They think it’s all about how many people watch…not about the message. You get the feeling that if they thought they could get even higher ratings just running movies of Hitler’s speeches, they’d do it. Oh, no, wait, they don’t need to do that to promote bigotry and self-centeredness…they’ve got their regular program hosts for that.
