Verjee to leave CNN International for CNN…

Broadcasting and Cable’s John Eggerton scoops that Zain Verjee will be moving from CNN International to CNN…

CNN is expected to announce Friday that Zain Verjee, Atlanta-based anchor for CNN International (CNNI), will be leaving that post come Friday to join the mothership.

CNN is said to see a rising star in Verjee, who co-anchors the Your World Today CNNI broadcast that CNN airs at noon-1 p.m.. She has also reported international news for CNN’s afternoon Situation Room, where she has fans in host Wolf Blitzer and commentator Jack Cafferty.

CNN International’s Zain Verjee will move to Washington, D.C., to report for CNN/U.S., it was announced today by CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein. Verjee, who was born and raised in Kenya and educated in Canada, previously served with CNN International (CNNI) at the network’s global headquarters in Atlanta, where she co-anchored CNNI’s Your World Today with Jim Clancy, simulcast on CNN/U.S. each weekday.

Verjee will continue as a contributor to CNN’s The Situation Room and will report on other issues around the nation’s capital. She will begin reporting for CNN/U.S. on Monday, April 17.

“Zain brings a global perspective that will be invaluable in reporting national news stories from Washington,” Klein said. “We are all very excited for her to join the D.C. team.”
