Fox Business Channel Coming Soon?
Ad Age’s Claire Atkinson speculates about a sooner than expected debut of Fox Business Channel. (via Jossip)
Other tipsters say Fox News producers told folks they’re expecting the launch this month, while analysts say recent meetings with News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch and President Peter Chernin left them with the distinct impression that the Wall Street-focused sibling is close to birth. A message for a Fox News spokeswoman was not returned by press time.
UPDATE: FTVLive has FNC execs shooting down the story.

Another channel devoted entirely to business news? Well, I can’t really give an opinion about Fox’s proposal without knowing which personalities and shows will be featured (besides Neil Cavuto, as mentioned in the original article), but my initial reaction is that I probably won’t tune in right away.

People like Stuart Varney, Brenda Buttner, and Rebecca Gomez would make could business anchors. And I’m sure they’ve been quietly squirelling away other talent for this channel.
And consiering Roger Ailes invented the CNBC format where it’s business during the day and “something else” at night, I’d expect him to improve upon that. Remember, when Ailes was at CNBC, that channel did GOOD.
And certianly for a new channel, there would be repurposed content, like “Your World” and the FOX Biz Block.
But within this month, possibly? Doesn’t that seem kind of… soon? I guess that’s the point of the article, but STILL…

I predict that if the Fox Business Channel becomes reality, Your World will not be repurposed. It will be moved to the new channel, and something else replaces it at 4:00 pm. The business block will probably remain on Saturday mornings, however.

No way. Your World is an FNC staple. They’ll want to keep it on the mother ship if for no other reason to serve as a portal to the Business channel.

Your World a business program….yeah right! I do just enough biz news to let it be called that then they devote time interviewing strippers and other non business people. BTW, how bout Lou Dobbs beating Your World in May. Maybe FNC is on the ‘De-klein’?

Dobbs it too busy trying to make the U.S of A. a safe and Mexican-free zone for all the non-Mexicans, that he’s no longer a business news anything.
I’m intrigued that Claire Atkinson and other reporters are so willing to throw facts to the wind and soil their reputations to try to be first on this business channel story.

You’re defintely right about Dobbs current preoccupation.
I’ll be curious to see who will anchor the FNC business channel. I’m sure the folks at CNBC are getting re hoping this is just a rumor.

Looks like this writer Claire Atkinson has some pretty big track marks on her back from where the bus ran her over. Fact checking is something all reporters should take more seriously.

So true, Andi. She should have also tried to contact the TV network she was writing about so she wouldn’t have to quote “tipsters.”
Hey Claire, you’re not the tvnewser kid with tipsters and emailers, etc. You’re a journalist. Start acting like one.

Dobbs doesn’t claim to be a business program. Your World does.
Comment by Fred — June 2, 2006 @ 5:57 pm
Does this mean Cavuto will no longer be on the regular FNC? I certainly hope not.

I agree with the above about CNBC - they can’t be happy to hear that this channel is close to coming out. It must be like hearing the train when you are tied to the tracks.

I think CNBC will be just fine even if FNC does launch its business channel…
