Schonfeld on Dobbs…

Reese blogs on Lou Dobbs and suggests that when the illegal immigration issue fades, so will Dobbs’ audience…

The Dobbs show attracts a select audience that cares about the same issues he does. I am not sure the audience will remain when the issue pales. One of the worst mistakes that CNN made was its concentrative coverage of the OJ Simpson trial. It, too, attracted a large, select audience. But after the verdict came in the audience vanished and the core audience never returned. Before the Simpson trial CNN had a point-7 audience. After, it fell to point-5’s and even point 4’s. Immigration and job loss will unfortunately last longer than the trial but at the end CNN may find itself searching for a new 6:00 PM program.

  1. No surprise there, Lou has been milking the immigration debate almost as much as Connie Chung has her farewell serenade. Luckily for Dobbs, it looks like an immigration reform bill has no chance of passing this year. If a reform bill does pass I’m sure Lou and the CNN brass can come up with another issue to cover for the next several years.

  2. Lou Dobbs has done more to expose illegal immigration than any other networ/cable tv. Dont forget he made his audience more aware of the Dubai Ports deal, among several other scandalous deals. I rely on Lou Dobbs. I used to watch Fox, but quit after they because too Bush oriented, and didnt come clean on alot of news stories. Maybe “come clean” arent the words for it. Basically Fox news doesnt cover “ALL” of the news.

  3. Buck, it’s not really “lucky” for Dobbs that the amnesty bill will not pass. He’s probably the largest impetus behind it’s failure. While Tom Tancredo, Jeff Sessions and J.D. Hayworth all lobbied against the bill, Dobbs was the one who most publicized their arguments to the public.
