CNN: Broadcast Network?
An emailer wrote in to note something I missed in CNN’s Shuttle Launch press release…
As the only broadcast network to air every NASA shuttle launch live, CNN plans to continue that tradition across numerous platforms with live footage both on-air and online of the Space Shuttle Discovery launch on Saturday, July 1.

Technically, they do have a “broadcast network” of over-the-air TV stations that (presumably) have contracts with CNN that allow CNN to take their feeds when news breaks in their area, and vice versa, allow these same local stations to take a CNN feed when a national news event of importance occurs. Not all stations are affiliated with a Big 3 or 4 network - some are just affiliated with CNN or perhaps APTN.
(Presumably, these CNN “affiliates” could pick up live coverage of the shuttle launch from CNN if no other network they’re affiliated with offers it.)
