FNC breaks tape to cover shuttle announcement. MSNBC and CNN? Nah…

From an emailer…

FNC had a FOX news alert on during a taped interview that the launch was a “Go” for the 4th. A few min later, approx 9:06pm they went to the press conf.

MSNBC and CNN are not covering it or putting an alert on screen. Larry King Not Live is on with Star Jones. MSNBC is airing and old episode of lockup.

UPDATE: As has been made abundantly clear in the comments, this emailer got it wrong. CNN did in fact break in. I’ll have to be more careful in the future…

  1. I saw that as well. No surprise with MSNBC, but CNN is usually good about breaking news. From what I remember, they were showing their prized, coveted Star Jones interview. The only thing they would have interrupted that with would have been breaking news on Angelina Jolie.

  2. Okay, where’s that embittered crank “Cable News Watcher” now to post some odd rant about no one has a passion for space news or is a “real” news channel like CNN?

  3. Everyone keeps saying CNN did not cover it. They did. CNN broke into Paula Zahn Now and Tony Harris brought the announcement and then tossed to John Zarella at Kennedy Space Center.

  4. I think I read on another board that Tony Harris broke into the taped Paula Zahn Now to cover the announcement…Oh yea…it was the MSNBC board. Gotta watch that spud, you don’t have the gift Johnny Dollar does of watching 10 channels at once.

  5. Totally off-topic but this site has the most intrusive and annoying ‘pop-under’ ads around. They momentarily take full control of the browser before they ‘go under’ where they belong. Don’t know who your ad supplier is, but they’re freak.

  6. If CNN broke in during the 8pm hour I missed it.
In the 9pm hour FNC put up an alert graphic that the launch was “A go” and then covered the press conf.
I kept switchng to CNN and Larry King was still on and there was no mention on screen of the lanuch being “A go” for Today.

  8. I have no control over these idiotic popups. I don’t want them anymore than you do…

  9. Sorry, Spud - didn’t mean to imply they were under your control and you were doing this to us on purpose… Just commenting on their annoyingness. My popup blocker gets most things, but for some reason not these.
