Another talk show host to anchor news on MSNBC next week…

WHPT talk show host Michael Smerconish will be anchoring MSNBC live in the 12 pm hour next week Monday through Thursday (Melissa Stark is scheduled to anchor Friday in that hour I hear). Already Monica Crowley, another talk show host, has been anchoring portions of MSNBC Live. Who’s next? Rush Limbaugh? At least he has a journalism degree

UPDATE: The MSNBC board is not amused

  3. I like Smerconish. Maybe it is my conservative soul that makes me happy MSNBC is providing him a platform.
Seriously, he has had an outstanding career, riddled with awards in journalism.

  5. Yeah, cella, this is JUST what MSNBC needed…yet another conservative voice to add to its already huge stable of conservative voices…it just didn’t have enough! Maybe they will balance things out even more by getting ANOTHER conservative.

  6. Cella: I may be wrong but I doubt that Smerconish would leave his beloved Philadelphia to do a full-time gig on MSNBC or anyplace else.

    Enjoyed his latest book “Muzzled.”

  7. I think this may ba a tryout of some sort for a daytime program…see how Smerconish does on the TV screen…I hope this isn’t a sign that MSNBC is looking to counterprogram Glenn Beck though…

  8. If MSNBC hires Smerconish, it better be for his talk show hosting talent. It would truly be a waste to have him anchor the news. He is capable of so much more.

And speaking of their misuse of talent, what’s up w/Scarborough’s program turning into a tabloid-fest? Here the guy’s an attorney and former congressman, and they have him talking about Brangelina and baby Suri? I actually thought they exiled Rita to get away from tabloid stories. But I’ve watched bits and pieces of Scarborough this week, and he presented nothing BUT Hollywood-type topics, even on days where the Israeli conflict escalated. No more SC for me!

  9. I, for one, would watch a show with Rachel Maddow, Air America Mornings radio host and contributor to Tucker Carlson’s show on MSNBC.

That would be a little bit of balance.
