Gupta on the human cost of war…

CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta turned in a Reporter’s Notebook on what he’s been seeing in Beruit…

As I stood in a bombed-out nursery at Salel hospital in southern Beirut, I realized that this is the hardest part of my job.

Certainly, it is difficult to travel to a war zone, go without sleep for days on end and worry about my own safety. And, of course, being away from my family is difficult, as well.

Standing in that nursery, though, looking at the devastation of crumpled walls and shards of glass everywhere — staring into the seven tiny, now-empty bassinets adorned with little cut-out figures of rabbits and turtles, now carelessly tossed on the floor — is the most heart-wrenching of all.

I came to Beirut to tell the stories of the victims of war and the heroes who save them. I found plenty of both.

Olbermannn’s O’Reilly and Van Susteren photos…

During yesterday’s Critics Association presser Keith Olbermann pulled out the O’Reilly photo to poke fun at an earlier bruhaha where print journalists would only get photo hand outs from the event that were shot by photographers Fox Broadcast had hired and there was talk of AP journalists boycotting the tour as a result. But did Olbermann know that that problem had already been resolved?

CORRECTION: It was a Fox Broadcast decision not an FNC decision. ICN regrets the error.

AP, Fox Reach Agreement at Press Event
Monday, July 17, 2006
NEW YORK — The Associated Press and Fox have reached an agreement regarding coverage of the network’s news conferences at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Fox had asked journalists to accept handout photos of the news conferences from photographers it had hired. The news cooperative had refused to send print reporters under those conditions, saying that Fox’s decision interfered with its ability to fully report the event and also set a bad precedent.

Photographers now will be permitted to cover the first 10 minutes of news conferences at the event in Pasadena, Calif., where networks bring their stars to meet with reporters. As in the past, no photographers will be permitted in sessions where Fox executives address the media.

“I’m glad we were able to work something out that is mutually agreeable,”David Ake, the AP’s deputy director of photography, said Monday.

Fox spokesman Joe Earley said he regretted the matter had become public.

Olbermann’s “Nazi salute”…

Yes I’m aware of it. I posted the B&C article that referenced it last night. But I’m not posting the pic because the only one I’ve seen, and the one Olbermann Watch is using, comes from Getty Images and is copyrighted. I don’t have permission to use it so I’m not.
