UPDATE: TVWeek’s Michelle Greppi writes up the story under the banner “Fox News Reigns as News Heats Up”…

With only one exception, the three major cable news channels saw substantial year-to-year improvements in total viewership and among viewers 25 to 54, the most valuable news demo, in the week beginning July 17.

Fox News averaged 1.9 million total viewers in prime time, off just 3 percent from the comparable week in 2005. But in the 25-54 demo, Fox was up 13 percent year to year with 586,000 viewers in prime time, the most lucrative daypart.

CNN averaged 1.01 million viewers in prime time (up 51 percent), 364,000 of them in the news demo (up 97 percent).

MSNBC’s prime-time average was 386,000 viewers (up 28 percent), 161,000 of them in the demo (up 41 percent).

For total day across the week, Fox averaged 1.2 million viewers (up 12 percent), 398,000 of them in the demo (up 41 percent).

As does Broadcasting & Cable’s John M. Higgins but with a different slant…

CNN typically gets a big Nielsen boost when the world starts going to hell, and its coverage of the war in Lebanon is no exception. Still, Fox News by far won the week.

  4. Oh tanne, why do I think you’d be singing a different tune if it were another network?

  7. FNC is up only due in part the war gives their pundits and talking heads something to shout, debate and argue over. Why do people like that kind of stuff, I will never know.

  8. Of course you will never know Cable Guy. You’ve been brainwashed by the Communist News Network. Get out of the darkness and come into the light. We will embrace you with open arms, nurture you to be a good conservative, teach you good values. It’s not too late, You will be a much happier and healthier person. You’ll learn to support and protect America from terrorists that want to kill us, support our soldiers and supporting our President. It’s not too late for Tanne either. You both seem so miserable, I’m offering you a change for the better, All you have to do is step out of the darkness and into the light. LOL

  9. I’ve tried to watch FNC time and time again. I get sick of the silliness, the yelling, the same ol whining, “why are they against US?”. I watch a NEWS channel to be informed, NOT entertained. There’s plenty of other channels on the tube for that. Give me the FACTS and leave your OPINION, debate and angeriness out of it. My former boss was/is an FNC watcher and my gosh he was always in a grouchy mood. And I have no doubt that everyone else out there is just like him, always mad at the world, thinking people are just out to get him. Sorry I choose to live a life of being informed with the facts and not getting all stirred up with nothing but shouting, screaming and crap. If FNC programmed news around the clock like their little top and bottom of the hour news updates, FNC would get my viewership. Until then, no fnc for ME!

  10. “And I have no doubt that everyone else out there is just like him, always mad at the world, thinking people are just out to get him.”

Are you serious CNW? YOU seem to be the one who is mad, when all your comments say the same thing over and over again. Who do you think is out to get you is my question? You think those of us who include FNC in our news lineup are mad at the world? Gimme a break. Ever think your old boss might have had things going on in his life that made him grouchy? It’s because he watches a certain channel? Please. That’s laughable, just like everything else you say.

  11. I don’t think people who watch FNC are mad at the world…just mad.
