More FNC news…

In the wake of the news that Brigitte Quinn asked to have her time scaled back, ICN has learned that FNC has been testing out people to take over the shift. I’ve seen Jamie Colby, Jane Skinner, and Gretchen Carlson during the 10-12:00 pm shift the past few weeks.

Although Chris Knowles has not been appearing on Fox and Friends weekend edition the past few weeks, he has not been fired from the network. His next assignment is being determined.

As for The Big Story producers leaving as TVNewser noted, it has been suggested that they apparently no longer had what it takes to work at the network.

UPDATE: A commentor in this thread says that the Big Show Producer was not let go for incompetence and that he gave notice weeks ago because he was moving because of his wife’s job transfer.

  1. I vote for Jane Skinner.

    Comment by Terance — July 26, 2006 @ 1:10 pm

  2. I second Jane, she is great and deserves her own show.

    Comment by OverHere — July 26, 2006 @ 1:18 pm

  3. Do you guys know if that wacky lefty radio host that appears on FNC occasionally who’s also a Skinner is her sister? I guessing it is because I can see some resemblance.

    Comment by Lurker — July 26, 2006 @ 1:26 pm

  4. WHAT! A shakeup at FNC. I thought Ailes said everything was fine and dandy?!? I guess not.

    Comment by Cable News Watcher — July 26, 2006 @ 1:30 pm

  5. ^

Roger Ailes isn’t like CNN. He wants to keep improving FNC, He has high ambitions for the network unlike CNN who is contemp on being in 2nd place with half the viewers lol.

    Comment by Lurker — July 26, 2006 @ 1:34 pm

  6. good job copying and pasting what fox tells you.

    Comment by Anonymous — July 26, 2006 @ 1:35 pm

  7. Patti Ann Browne should be given the time now available due to Brigette’s cutting back. She is a d@mn good anchor!

Chris Knowles is missed on Fox& friends weekend. His humor and interaction with the hosts was a definate positive for the show.

    Comment by malone — July 26, 2006 @ 1:56 pm

  8. Please not Jamie Colby. She just tries too hard and I could’t take that voice so early in the day.
Jane Skinner seems a relaxed alternative. But I do wonder about her knowledge of world events.

    Comment by cella — July 26, 2006 @ 1:56 pm

  9. If those are the candidates, I vote for “none of the above.” Too drab, too bland. How about Alisyn Camerota? She can handle any situation.

    Comment by George — July 26, 2006 @ 2:29 pm

  10. Lurker, it’s Nancy Skinner you’re thinking of. I HOPE she isn’t related to Jane.

Sorry, cella, I like Jamie Colby. But I think Gretchen Carlson is always very competent when she’s on any program.

But poor Bridget. She was only on an hour a day to begin with, I believe, so how much more could her hours be cut back?

    Comment by Missy — July 26, 2006 @ 3:07 pm

  11. I am so glad to see that Chris Knowles was not fired. I really liked him. Hopefully they find a way to use him. Every Tuesday Tiki, Brian, and Chris provide a really good show.

    Comment by CompMike — July 26, 2006 @ 3:25 pm

  12. Yes Missy, Nancy Skinner, that’s it. So what do you guys think? Are they sisters or what? I can see some resemblance between the two plus they have the same last name. Coincidence?

    Comment by Lurker — July 26, 2006 @ 3:40 pm

  13. Kiran Chetry. I sure wouldn’t mind looking at that every morning!!!!

Alisyn Camerota or Julie Banderas would be ok too.

    Comment by spiffo — July 26, 2006 @ 3:51 pm

  14. I’d vote for Uma Pemmaraju. As far as the oft mentioned (in order of preference) Jane Skinner, Gretchen Carlson, and Jamie Colby, if Uma does not get the 7-9AM Pacific time spot, or shares it with another female colleague, then give it to Jane.

    Comment by Bob — July 26, 2006 @ 4:16 pm

  15. Megyn Kendall.

    Comment by johnny dollar — July 26, 2006 @ 4:44 pm

  16. Good call Johnny, Megyn Kendall would be a good replacement. Aside from the easy on the eyes part (being 1 of the 50 most beautiful people on Capitol Hill according to the Hill newspaper) she is a great reporter.

    Comment by Buck — July 26, 2006 @ 5:59 pm

  17. I think it should be Jane Skinner. She has been with FNC for so long that she definitely deserves a permanent hour. Also, how about giving Rudi more airtime on the weekdays.

    Comment by Matt — July 26, 2006 @ 6:16 pm

  18. Jane Skinner is not related to Nancy Skinner. Not even close. They grew up in different states, etc.

    Comment by Chris — July 26, 2006 @ 6:17 pm

  19. The Big Story’s senior producer was not let go for incompetence or anything else. He gave notice weeks ago, he was moving out of town because his wife’s job transfer.

    Comment by Albert — July 26, 2006 @ 7:01 pm

  20. I would make a news Show with Chris Knowles and Kiran Chetry on the show.Maybe DaySide Mike Jerrick Juliet Huddy are geting a National Morning Show on Fox soon.
Kiran and Chris are great together on the air.Well Maybe.
Better hour her Kiran and Chris maybe get more viewer.

    Comment by Chris — July 26, 2006 @ 7:16 pm

  21. 1. I vote for Gretchen Carlson with Uma a close second.

    2. The name of No.4 above should be changed to “2/3 Cable News Watcher.!”

    Comment by Ira — July 26, 2006 @ 7:29 pm

  22. Nobody. Brigitte is still waaay too good. And if she leaves the morning hours, I hope she gets the upcoming re-tooled 1 pm hour.

    Comment by Charles — July 26, 2006 @ 8:38 pm

  23. I don’t really see Chris doing any kind of anchor work at Fox. For some reason, he doesn’t seem the type to be that much into news, politics, etc. Maybe something entertainment-wise would be a good fit for him, and he’d be a natural at getting the interviews with the rap stars like 50 Cent, etc. He and Kiran are big fans of rap music. Having him on Fox & Friends as an anchor with Kiran wouldn’t work out, in my opinion. Until their baby was born, the both of them seemed to try to hide their connection to one another. Of course, that became impossible when she was born, but I assume that they would rather that their marriage to one another was not the centerpiece of every show, and if they were both co-hosts, that would be very hard to accomplish. He’s really fine in what he is doing now, and that’s being a FoxCaster. He’s done weather at nearly all of the other stations that he’s worked at, and so I’d say that he has a little more knowledge of things pertaining to weather versus world affairs or politics.

  24. I’m glad Chris Knowles isn’t gone from Fox. He added so much to the weekend show. Very witty ! I sure do miss seeing him.

  25. I like Chris K. (aka Big Daddy) and I miss him on FNC. Also where is Julian Phillips?

    Comment by karen — July 31, 2006 @ 3:39 pm

  26. Julian Phillips was let go, ie., fired.

    Comment by Ron Weinberg — August 2, 2006 @ 7:05 am

  27. I miss Chris - Rick Reichmuth (sp?) is fine, but there’s something about Chris -I hope he’s back on the air soon.

    Comment by Lynne — August 4, 2006 @ 8:52 am

  28. COuld we be so lucky? I hope JP has moved on — not a fox type person.

    Comment by And y — August 5, 2006 @ 8:41 am

  29. FNC…Bring Chris Knowles to the week-end!!! We miss his wit & humor and he was a pretty good weather guy as well. Come to think of it, here is a great scenario for Fox & Friends week-end: Juliet, Kiran and Mike J. with Chris doing the weather. What a team! We miss Mike and Juliet cuz some of us work during the week and can’t watch DaySide.

    Comment by LisaB — August 5, 2006 @ 11:09 am

  30. I really miss Chris Knowles! What a great wit about him and he was good at weather forcasting. I hope they get him back on the air soon.

    Comment by Jan V — August 6, 2006 @ 7:55 am

  31. PLEASE bring Chris Knowles back! He made us laugh. He has great chemistry with EVERYONE! It’s not the same!

    Comment by m.anderson — August 7, 2006 @ 9:29 am

  32. I have bent several spoon handles banging them on the table while chanting “Bring Back Chris! Bring Back Chris!” Why on earth is he being reassigned? Was his assignment on Fox & Friend Weekend only 18 months’ duration? Renewal is a legitimate word!!! He was a great meteorologist and his wit and humor have no equal. Until Maya was born, no one could tell he and Kiran were married to each other. They are consummate professionals. Having Janice Dean on, though, is a happy substitute. She, too, has a great sense of humor and deserves to be away from her last job ;-) She really is a lady, Also, when Tiki retires from football, maybe he could join Fox full time. Any day with him on is a good day. Lastly, kudos to Fox for finally realizing what an arrogant, self-serving egotist JP was. Don’t miss him a bit.

    Comment by Beth Googins — August 12, 2006 @ 8:15 am

  33. I have come to the conclusion that the absence of Chris Knowles is probably attributed to one of these two things…He either did or said something improper and is being punished by being reassigned to a desk job, or FNC has something better for him in the upcoming weeks that he is preparing for. He may have been on jury duty, but that most likely is over with now. Kiran never makes any reference to Chris anymore, and neither do any of the other co-hosts. If Knowles has been fired, FNC is keeping it very hushed up, and I wonder if they are doing so in order to make things easier on Kiran, who is still at the network. I had thought that maybe FNC simply wanted a real meteorologist for their programs, but since Janice Dean was on this morning, I guess that theory is out the window! I hope that Chris is still at Fox and will reappear in another on-camera position if he doesn’t return as FoxCaster.

  34. i really miss chris knowles on fox and friends weekend, i work mon thru fri, so the week-end is the only time i watch fox and friends. chris made the show so much fun, loved watching him, please leave us know what is going on with chris

    Comment by jday — August 13, 2006 @ 8:12 am

  35. Well, Chris is still with FNC. I saw him last evening (08/12)doing the weather on The Fox Report. It looks like he may have changed shifts for some reason, and it also appears that his schedule is very, very light at this point. I liked seeing Chris on Fox & Friends Weekend, because he could showcase his humorous side, and it was also fun to watch he and Kiran bantering back and forth on occasion. Now it seems kind of dull with Rick Reichmuth on the show.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 13, 2006 @ 10:11 am

  36. Chris needs to be the weather guy with Kiran, Alyson and maybe Mike Jerrick??
So what, that he and Kiran are married. I enjoy their banter with one another. They are a very cute couple and Alyson makes an excellant foil for them.

    Comment by scott mclane — August 13, 2006 @ 3:44 pm

  37. Please bring back Chris Knowles for the week-end weather on Fox and Friends. I think he is fun and very knowledgable. I don’t enjoy it as much now. Quit changing the show or you will lose viewers. Karin is a doll. Chris is so cute!

    Comment by Joan Ziegler — August 15, 2006 @ 12:59 pm

  38. Bring back Chris, NOW

    Comment by Marguerite Ingram — August 15, 2006 @ 2:31 pm

  39. Chris did appear very briefly this past weekend, once during Fox News Live and also on The Fox Report. His schedule seems to be very light, and I have to wonder what is really going on at FNC concerning Knowles. He supposedly went on Jury duty in late June-Kiran and Chris both acknowledged this on the air at the time. He appeared on F&F Weekend once at the beginning of his jury duty, and aside from a short walk-on appearance when Kiran was doing the weather on July 4th, he hasn’t been on the same show with her since. I mean, did Fox just decide that since he was on jury duty it would be a good time to give him the boot in favor of Rick Reichmuth? In my opinion, Reichmuth doesn’t set the world on fire when it comes to personality or ability. He’s just okay. Kiran never mentions Chris or her little baby girl anymore, and I just wonder if there is something going on that we don’t know about. Or, maybe the both of them simply wanted to schedule their hours differently to fit in better with the baby and her needs. I guess we will continue to speculate on this!

  40. I really miss Chris Knowles. I thought he was quite funny and enjoyed his humorous remarks during the weather. He took something that could be dull and made it fun. I guess that why I also miss Mike Jerrick in the morning. I have to agree that without Chris I don’t enjoy it as much as I once did. Kiran is great but I am partial as I am from Maryland as well!!

    Comment by Joy B — August 15, 2006 @ 6:34 pm

  41. I add my voice to the bring back Chris movement! The show isn’t as much fun without him.

    Comment by Shirlee Pakkala — August 19, 2006 @ 2:18 pm

  42. We REALLY miss Chris Knowles! He brought such humor to the show, as well as knowledge of the weather. One reason to watch the weekend news.
Thank goodness Julian is gone. He was not a team player. He had a holier than thou attitude.
    Bring Chris back!

    Comment by Bonnie W. — August 20, 2006 @ 8:10 am

  43. I miss Chris Knowles, too! Also, I am so glad to learn that Julian is gone for good. He has always been my least favorite Fox Friend.

    Comment by Carol T. — August 20, 2006 @ 2:30 pm

  44. I am THRILLED Julian Phillips is no longer with Fox! He was too arrogant, self-absorbed & obnoxious. Congrats Fox for dismissing this jerk.

As for Chris Knowles: I surely hope he is being considered for another position at Fox. I found him personable, informative and injected humor, which I found pleasing. Please do NOT fire him!!

Overall, I LOVE the FOX station. I wake up to it every morning–Sunday through Saturday. FOX is the ONLY new station I watch/listen to for “fair and balanced” world & national news. FOX is absolutely a blessing to all conservatives (and liberals, if they would only open their minds–Is that even possible? It is comforting to finally hear the views of conservative commentators/intellects–something we have NOT seen/heard from other local & cable stations. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK! Roger Ailes, in my opinion, was inspired to establish the FOX station/network! Thank you! Thank you! And, God bless all at FOX. Your loyal, dedicated viewer, Jan Ericksen (Brainerd, MN–E.D. knows exactly where Brainerd is located)

  45. Sure miss Chris Knowles!! He added some humor to the weekend show. Bring him on during the week. He sure could do lots to improve the weather during Fox and Friends cause Steve Ducey is sure a bore! Glad to see that Julian is gone, he was a pompous ass, everything was about him…..good ridence.

  46. I’m late in getting this out there…but…

I WILL MISS BRIDGET QUINN…She and Jon Scott were/are the best, hands down, in the morning news at Fox! Ms. Quinn is smart, confident, savvy and always well prepared. She did not let her on-air presence get in the way of her interviewees. She had a very special respect and regard for her guests and it seemed her guests felt the same way about her.

Actually all of the people at Fox are very good, but it is hard to vote for a replacement for Ms. Quinn.

    Comment by Cathleen Hunt — September 22, 2006 @ 4:45 pm
