War Stories to air Live Sunday…
A special edition of War Stories with Oliver North will air live Sunday at 8pm on FNC…
FOX News Channel (FNC) presents a special live episode of War Stories with Oliver North on Sunday, July 30th at 8PM/ET that will feature interviews with former hostages Terry Anderson and David Jacobsen. Anderson and Jacobsen will discuss their experiences as hostages of Hezbollah.
Anderson was a correspondent for the Associated Press when he was kidnapped by Hezbollah in 1985 and held hostage in Lebanon for more than six years. Jacobsen was a director of the American University Hospital in Lebanon when he was kidnapped and held hostage by Hezbollah. Jacobsen was released in 1986 after 17 months of captivity.

War Stories is one of if not the best program on television. No political bent at all; all sides of the story. For instance, it was the first place I ever saw, regarding the Japanese side of WW II, that one of their motivations was that the United States stopped selling them oil; and at the time, we supplied 80% of their oil. Ironic, with us at war today. What would our government do if the Middle East totally cut off our oil all at once?

There were many things involved with the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. There was never an embargo on oil, they only embargoed steel, iron and fuel. It was only after several countries (one of which being the United States) froze Japan’s assets, nearly a year later, did oil become a problem. Up until that point, Japan was able to buy oil from anyone they wanted. If Japan was going to attack because of embargos, they would have done so in 1940, and not 1941 after we froze their assets.
FOX generalizes what happens, you’re much better off watching the History Channel or the Military Channel. FOX is catering to their viewers who might not grasp detailed, factual information in a program.

I’m not blaming the US for WWII. FNC may generalize, but War Stories does not. All the things you mention were covered on War Stories, but the two simple facts I mentioned were NEVER mentioned on the History Channel; and I should know, as I watch the History Channel more than I watch FNC.
Also this: I didn’t say Roosevelt cut off Japan’s oil three years before they bombed Pearl Harbor; it was just a matter of months. And when the history books leave out little facts like that, the entire story can be changed;
We cut off oil, Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, America gets involved in war…
But no one thinks that is the whole story either. The US reinstituted the draft in 1940, not December 1941. The US started mass producing war planes and secretly flying them,, through Alaska, to Moscow way before we were ‘officially’ involved in the war.
FNC is the best thing that has happened to news in years. Competition in the information age is vital. And getting your history from one history book only fine if you don’t care about history. The history Channel gets most things right, but not everything. Their 20th century history is loaded with discrepancies, inconsistencies, and factual errors if you’re picky. And loads of one sided opinion =- but mostly only in their 20th century stuff.
Getting your history or your news from only one source is stupid if something else is available.
And one more thing: Have you noticed Franklin Roosevelt’s cigarettes disappearing from not just his photos, but also film footage? And he’s not the only one.
