MSNBC unveils new graphics a day early?

ICN is hearing that the first appearance of MSNBC’s new graphics will not be on Monday but will actually be tomorrow when Your Business airs at 7:30 am. I’ve heard that the overall color of the lower thirds will be blue based. The whole thing is apparently very angular looking. But I’ve been told that the Your Business graphics are different from what is being used on MSNBC Live though I don’t know what the differences are.

UPDATE: Ok here’s what it looked like. I think there may have been a problem with the tape because on my dish the whole picture seemed to be interlacing. As I noted above, I’m hearing that the MSNBC Live version will have a different color scheme, though how different is not clear.

  1. To me it doesn’t really make sense. If you’re premiering a new graphics package on a set date, why would you preview it a day early, and for just 30 minutes? Then go back to the old graphics for the rest of the day? Maybe they just want to be nice to those who are really, really excited about it (me) who can’t wait to see them.

  2. maybe they will be premiering the whole graphic package. I remember long ago when the current package came out it premiered on a weekend. one advantage of it is if they really dont like something with it they can have it changed/fixed for the weekday

  3. That is not what I’ve heard. As far as I know it’s still going to be Monday. Probably starting with Imus. But that is just a guess on my part. They might wait until MSNBC Live. I can’t remember what they did when they installed the “ESPN ticker”…

  4. spud… there are going to be new graphics for everything, right? not just msnbc live’s lower thirds, but all the primetime shows and everything else like that?

  5. No idea. Sounds reasonable though…

  6. I noticed the interlacing issue on the graphics also.

  7. The reason they probably tested the graphics package at 7:30 on a Sunday is to work out some of the more noticible kinks. (aka the interlacing issue.) As a broadcast designer myself going through a potential new graphic package for November sweeps, it can be pretty tough to know the exact kinks without running it though a real show and seeing the output from master control.

  8. Well, if you want to think about it, the network may have just experimented with Your Business to make sure the whole setup will work correctly when they start using it Monday. Anyway, if you think about it, atleast “The Most” is kinda already built around this new logo.

  9. Adding you my last post, could this mean the return of the tabbed scoller?

  10. I would hate to add one more comment, but do you think it could be … red like the current theme? ;)

  11. What is an interlacing issue?

  12. It’s where the fields that make up the odd and even lines of a TV screen are out of synch. In this case it made the whole screen look jittery..

  13. If this is in fact the new graphics look, I think it’s too bland. Granted, maybe Fox and CNN go overboard with the color red, but it gets our attention.

We know MSNBC has its problems, but I don’t think their graphics were a problem.

  14. Boring.

  15. Thanks for explaining that. I did notice that something was off with MSNBC yesterday on my cable system, but so were a handful of other channels, so I think my problem was cable related.

  16. Have no enough cash to buy a building? Do not worry, because it is available to get the business loans to work out such kind of problems. So take a secured loan to buy everything you need.
