Strip away all the labels of reporter, cameraman, Fox News, and American / New Zealander and what you have are human beings that are missing. Any issue besides their safe return is secondary, IMO. I hope that Amnesty International's statement, albeit late, does have a positive impact on the kidnappers, though I fear it will not.
