E.D. Hill Interview
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Alyson Ward has an interview with Fox and Friends’ E.D. Hill…
You’ve been on Fox & Friends for several years. How have you managed to co-host a morning show and survive as a mother of eight?
I go to work very early, but I get home really early. I can have a full mom day and a full workday. It is exhausting, but you do it because you have to. If you want to be a working mom, as any working mom knows, you’re working two full-time jobs. It’s not easy at all, but Fox has made it a lot easier for me, because when the kids were born I was able to bring them to the office with me.

I admire E.D. for her staying power. Her show with her two co-hosts has remained fixed in first place, and is just getting better. Perhaps unknown about E.D. is that she is also enrolled at Harvard getting a Master’s degree, perhaps the same course Bill O’Reilly took at the Kennedy School of Government. But, most of all, I salute her for her ability to do the difficult multitasking job of taking care of that big brood of kids, working daily for five days a week, and
having the time to advance her career further.

I think she is great and would do well anywhere. I do remember a piece of gossip earlier this year (can’t remember if it was this site, tv newser, or another) saying that CBS was considering a Fox anchor for the CBS “Early Show”; this was before the Anderson Cooper speculation. ED would do well there but she would be missed on Fox and Friends should she ever leave.

Wasn’t she on Good Morning America before FNC?

She spelled her name “Edye” at CBS.

Scott…I’ve heard that Kiran Chetry is the Fox anchor that CBS is looking at for their morning show. I don’t know if Kiran is actually considering a move to CBS, and I have to say that there are many more big names out there that CBS would probably rather get for their slumping morning program. Kiran has the liberal credentials that would make her a nice fit at CBS, and she has the right kind of personality for morning tv, but she wouldn’t necessarily be a big enough draw for CBS. I think that these types of shows are looking for someone slightly older. I think that I heard Campbell Brown mentioned as a possibility, and E.D. would be another fine choice. Having said that, I don’t think that E.D. is going anywhere. Since she’s been at Fox for so long, they are probably willing to give her the flexibility that she needs in order to be a wife and mother. She may not get that at CBS.

I am never awake for the morning shows. What are her liberal credentials, exactly?
Comment by Edward Schatz — September 18, 2006 @ 6:56 pm
Edward, that’s a good question. I’m a conservative and definitely take note of liberal-leaning statements made by newspeople. Yet I’ve never heard Kiran make any statement that leans one way or the other.
There are people on another board on which I post that also speak of Kiran’s liberal tendancies, and mention that she is “pro-choice”. But they could provide no other examples of her stated positions on other topics.

I suppose I could have used a better term instead of “credentials” when referring to Kiran, but what I mean is that she seems to have liberal views on many things and so I would think that she would be very comfortable at CBS. Still, at only 32, I don’t know if Kiran has the maturity to headline a weekday morning show. If Kiran stays at Fox, I don’t think that she will ever get beyond the weekend show. E.D. appears to be in it for the long haul, and if she leaves, I’d be very surprised if Gretchen Carlson did not get the nod for her replacement. Mature hosts are a common denominator in all of the morning shows, whether it be cable or network stations. Meredith Veiera (Today), Diane Sawyer (Good Morning America), Kiran Chetry (CBS Morning Show?). I don’t think so.

Missy….So, Kiran is officially “pro-choice”? She’s made many liberal comments, but I had only suspected her pro-choice stance. Liberal women are always pro-choice, but I had not heard Kiran actually proclaim it on tv. Certainly doesn’t surprise me.

Carlson seems more suited to the hard-news daytime programming. She’s been doing an awesome job filling in for Brigitte Quinn and we’ll probably see even more of her there now that Jane Skinner’s getting her own show.

I think that Carlson is one of those anchors who can do a good job in a variety of slots. Whether she is doing a morning show format or hard news, she appears to be comfortable and well prepared.

Speaking of Carlson, have you noticed how much more attractive she is with that new hairdo? This woman has both brains and beauty. If I recall right, she is also an excellent violinist. There’s no way to go but up.

Yeah, a new hairdo can give someone a whole new look. Martha MacCallum is sporting a new hairstyle lately and it looks really nice on her.

california dreamin, I only saw comments from a poster on another board stating that Kiran was “very” liberal and pro-choice, but I’ve never myself heard her make any comments such as those or to take a stand on any political topics.
She seems very personable, and always seems to get along well with her co-anchors and the program’s guests. I also liked her husband, Chris Knowles, and thought he added personality to the weathercasts there on Fox.

I’m with you Missy. There are a few Kiran haters out there who travel from forum to forum, under different aliases, and attempt to besmirch her or her character. I’ve been a fan of hers for years and I’ve always found her to be completely balanced and objective. I only wish ED Hill was as personable (and beautiful) as Kiran. ED has become an annoyingly loud and opinionated know-it-all, who drowns out her cohosts and prides herself on being the show contrarian.

I don’t take issue with Kiran’s character. I think that she seems like a very nice person, but I also can sense that she is quite liberal. The reason that I asked Missy about the “pro-choice” comment is because I have not yet been able to tell whether Kiran is in favor of abortion or not. Most liberals are fairly quick to show their colors on that one, so I just wondered if she had heard Kiran say something about her views on the issue. If you ever watch these female anchors do an interview that involves abortion, embryonic stem cells, etc., their body language, words and slant of questioning usually gives them away. They become terse and defensive, and I think that it’s one of those topics that even the most professional of anchors finds impossible to hide their feelings about. Kiran is a hard read when it comes to “life” or “choice”, quite rare for a lib in her profession. Kudos to her.

She’s got getting back in shape after pregnancy a personal art form. She ought to make her own video. “How to Bounce Back From the Baby Bump”. E.D. is not over the Hill just quite yet. You go, E.D.
