Hill/Carlson…

MediaWeek’s Anthony Crupi writes about today’s big FNC news…

Hill had been a fixture on Fox & Friends since 1999. Prior to joining FNC the previous year, Hill served as a contributing reporter for ABC News’ Good Morning America and as an anchor/reporter for the broadcaster’s flagship, WABC-TV, New York.

Throughout the last several months, FNC has touted Fox & Friends as a viable alternative to morning broadcast shows like NBC’s Today and ABC’s Good Morning America. According to Nielsen Media Research, last month F&F averaged around 872,000 total viewers in its 6:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m time slot, an increase of 6 percent versus August 2005. It also grew its share of the core A25-54 demo by 11 percent, to 367,000.

  1. I can’t imagine that Fox thinks that it is going to improve its Fox & Friends ratings with Carlson. Yeah, Gretchen is polished, a former Miss America, classical music performer and academic standout, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that folks will be enthused about watching with her as host now. She’s a little too serious. E.D. had her flaws, but she was Fox & Friends, and I don’t see Gretchen ever completely filling that role.

  2. This is an interesting development. Both Gretchen and E.D. Hill will be doing well. They are really just switching roles. Fox and Friends will remain at FMC, while Dayside will move over in the morning at the Fox Network, to compete with GMA and other morning programs. Either way, there is no way FOX will ever lose its viewers.

  3. I was hoping that Steve, E.D., and Brian would go over to Fox Broadcast. The goal can’t be to beat their chemistry. Hopefully they will develop a new chemistry.

  4. Gretchen is too buttoed down for these two zany guys.
Her strengths are that she doesnt’ wave her arms around and giggle like Kyren or, heaven forbid, Alisyn
The whole thing has stunned me.

  5. Someone needs to put a clamp on Alisyn’s mouth. She is loud and annoying and just will not shut up. Pity her poor husband.

  7. Not a good move. I know E.D. hated the 3am wake up call but…c’mon! And what happens to Jon Scott? He’s terrific.

  8. I don’t get it. E.D. Hill was the BRAINS of F&F! I wish Brian would have been replaced as I don’t care for his attitute/interest/comments about women. I am no longer a F&F loyal fan.
