Choi out at HLN?
TVNewser says that former Headline News weekday anchor Sophia Choi’s contract was not renewed. If that’s the case shouldn’t CNN take her image off the Headline News front page?

Wow…I can’t believe they got rid of Sophia! Another idiotic move down at Time Warner…sigh.

Yeah. I’m not thrilled with it either…
Comment by Spud — October 4, 2006 @ 12:21 pm
I was hoping this didn’t happen but now that I know it has I feel even better in my decision to reduce my viewing of Headline News.
Comment by Matt — October 4, 2006 @ 12:25 pm
Sophia is a gorgeous and intelligent woman. Why would you want to get rid of her? Why didn’t they promote her or move her over to the flag ship CNN/US?
Comment by Steve — October 4, 2006 @ 12:26 pm
A/O noon on 10-4, her bio is still up at HLN
Comment by sam — October 4, 2006 @ 1:02 pm
For their sake, I hope TVNewsers info is wrong and Choi is still with CNNHL. She is an amazing on-air talent.
Though if she did leave, hopefully FNC can snatch her up, either for FNC for for the Business channel.
Comment by Charles — October 4, 2006 @ 1:05 pm
I thought she got shifted to weekends on HLN AND anchoring/reporting for CNN’s spanish news channel.
Comment by Stud — October 4, 2006 @ 2:39 pm
Sorry to see Sophia Choi leave HLN but what upsets me more is the fact that Jane Arraf has left CNN. Was looking forward to her returning with her excellent reporting once her sabbatical was done. Sophia Choi was a newsreader and in my opinion easier to replace than a top notch reporter like Jane Arraf
Comment by anon — October 4, 2006 @ 3:01 pm
what happed to sophia choi she is not in cnn headline news on the weekend.
Comment by Farm — October 4, 2006 @ 9:39 pm
Great face, great brain, great personality, great voice…yeah, why would we want THAT on our TV news network?
Morons.
Comment by Dilbert Einstein — October 28, 2006 @ 8:44 am
Why would they can a gorgeous, intelligent, newscaster whith a fabulous voice? They must be crazy! I just hope to Hell she doesn’t wind up at FOX and burst my bubble!
Comment by Dennis — November 5, 2006 @ 8:24 pm
So, who knows where Sophia move to?
Comment by Andy Chan — December 2, 2006 @ 7:25 pm
I have been watching Sophia since she was in LA on the local news there. It does not surprise me that they would let this talented, brainy and very chic lady go. They are all nitwits at the headquarters there. Look at the others they have let slip away………to FOX even.
Comment by Jim Lehmann — December 14, 2006 @ 2:31 pm
Does anybody know where Sophia is now?!? I miss her! Such a vibrant and expressive personality!!!
Comment by Jack — January 24, 2007 @ 8:49 pm
I miss Sophia Choi too. I wondered what had happened to her. She is a very intelligent woman and she brought so much to HLN. I wonder where she is now?
Comment by Lynn — March 13, 2007 @ 6:49 pm
the person that hires at cnn must be blind an stupid.how could anyone replace sophia choi and rudi bakthiar with doumb bells like nancy grace and glen beck .vern johnson
Comment by vern johnson — March 14, 2007 @ 4:41 pm
I too, am angry with cnn for not renewing Sophia Choi’s contract. Other than Lou Dobb I do not watch cnn anymore. Does anyone know where she now works I would like to see great broadcasting again. Ed
Comment by Ed Edelen — March 22, 2007 @ 4:06 pm
I can not believe that cnn would be stupid enough let sophia chio go and replace with stupid people like nancy grace and glen beck
Comment by vern johnson — March 27, 2007 @ 4:23 pm
because of the change in cnn from 6pm to midnight this tation is not worth watching
Comment by vern johnson — March 27, 2007 @ 4:29 pm
Ridiculous. I just cant see any reason to let Sophia go. I still think CNN has the hottest women in cable news but thier decison making on who stays and who goes is screwed up. Sophia was beautiful and smart. Its sad. I was hoping I was reading this wrong. And now they have Kyra Phillips in Iraq. What the hell are they thinking. If anything happens to her Im not watching CNN anymore.
Comment by Mike Jones — March 28, 2007 @ 9:18 am
Betty & Linda are the only reason I still watch CNN. Sophia was number 1 in my viewing. Rudi is missed to. There is no Cnn news after 7:00pm. It reminds me of Mtv.junk.
Comment by John — March 31, 2007 @ 11:39 am
Sophia,Rudi and Cnn news after 7:00pm will be missed deeply.
Comment by John — March 31, 2007 @ 11:44 am
nancy grace and glen beck do not even come close to sophia nancy is rude and speaks on the same thing every day and every 3 times each night just plain garbage.glen is just like being lead around by –george bush what a mess eg
Comment by vern johnson — March 31, 2007 @ 9:28 pm
Sophia was great, like a damned doll. Sit back and listen to her voice, really great, sultry… Betty’s a good addition for sure but not Sophia, and Christina Park, voice is higher than I like…! I am hoping someone can paparazzi up some pictures… or something … where’s wald… Ah… Sophia???!!!!
Comment by John B — April 15, 2007 @ 9:38 am
Sophia has fallen completely off the radar screen. Should start a mail in campaign to FOX to hire her. Even if u don’t like Fox she wud be back on TV.
Comment by J.Hoover — April 15, 2007 @ 2:04 pm
i was sorry to hear cnn had let sofia choi go.i thought maybe she was taking time off to have a baby and start a family.if the management at cnn had the sense that god gave a mule seriously that would not had happend.then to add nancy grace and glen beck they took a chance and i believe it failed . first admit it.then try and correct it. i used to like watching sofia at 6 am in los angeles in the late 90s she was profesional articulate and comfortable. i could tell right from the start a t cnn something wasnt right. id like to know where we can see her again? and if she reads these can i please have an autographed photo of you. thanks. sofia is probably going to be at a better place anyway. so sofia be yourself and dont let the bastards bring you down. thank you for what you have done and good luck in the future you deserve.
Comment by ed p — April 29, 2007 @ 11:05 am
I’m not sure that Sophia wants to be back on TV but the best bet to see her again is to write MSNBC & FOX news asking for her to be hired. Hey check out my Yahoo Group @Sophia Choi 1.
Comment by J. Hoover — April 30, 2007 @ 4:46 pm
I guess you can add my name to the growing list of name that miss the lovely Sophia Choi. Erica Hill (who took Sophai’s spot) is nice but has no where near the charm and allure Sophia had, Erica is kind of boring really. Whatever the case, I wish Sophia all the best!
Comment by Max Brandt — June 17, 2007 @ 10:49 pm
I watched HLN for a summary of the news topics for the day. They aren’t any other stations that provide this type of news. Just the fact…headlines and a brief breakdown in each headline. It also helped to have well-read anchors like Choi in the line-up.
Its all changing for the worst with shows like Glen Beck and his one-sided views or comments and Nancy Grace with her redundant questions and intentional leading of the story with “imagined senerios” that don’t matter while the case is still in process. I’m in advertising and my motto is “cater to your audience”. Hopefully the executives at HLN will notice the blog and others and return to what I feel HLN was all about.
Comment by Page — July 16, 2007 @ 2:33 pm
she may have been on headline news, but she had FOX written all over her. IMHO the sexiest newscaster on tv.
Comment by patrick — August 15, 2007 @ 1:33 pm
I was just roaming the net just seeing if she moved to another station or what happen to her after CNN. I used to really like to watch her and Stephen Frazer in the afternoon. I thought they were a great team.
Comment by nyhm — August 24, 2007 @ 11:53 pm
Sophia Choi rocks 24/7
I am lost I have not look at CNN in a year their no reason for me to look at it.
BACK IN DAY “Lynne Russell” rock/24/7 also

Sophia has just been hired to be the 4 and 6 PM anchor for KVBC, the Las Vegas NBC affiliate.
Comment by John — October 11, 2007 @ 10:01 pm
Sophia is the best anchor ever! Nobody else has the great persona she has. Hope that someone will post a vid of her 1st day on KVBC as I doubt the station is available nationwide.
Comment by J. Hoover — October 12, 2007 @ 12:06 pm
KVBC broadcasts can be seen on their website. www.kvbc.com
Comment by John — October 12, 2007 @ 2:50 pm
Well, it’s good to hear the lovely Sophia Choi is still doing news, just on KVBC. I’ll have to check out their website for sure. I have always adored Sophia and thought she was one of the most captivating, beautiful and intelligent women CNN has ever employed! Shame on them for letting her go!
Comment by Max Brandt — October 12, 2007 @ 11:26 pm
I miss Sophia, not only is she pretty, but her voice and great laugh.
Comment by Ken — October 17, 2007 @ 7:44 pm
It looks like Sophia’s broadcasts are not available online as she will be anchoring the 4 & 6 PM broadcasts but only the 5PM broadcast is available online. Apparently we won’t get to see her after all.
Comment by J. Hoover — October 19, 2007 @ 6:00 pm
Sophia is in LV in KVBC which is the local NBC affliate. I remember her in LA in the late 90s when I lived there. I hope she likes it here. She has really added a lot of class to our evening news cast. Forget CNN.
Comment by G. West — October 22, 2007 @ 9:31 pm
Yep. We got her. Sophia (Smokin’ Hot) Choi (Richardson) is now on KVBC in Las Vegas. She is replcing the even hotter Nina Radatich, that left to go to Ch13 news. Whatever that was all about. Per contract, she has to be off the air for 1yr. Not likely to turn the channel now. Sophia Choi is much better and seems less full of herself. Plus, you can tell she’s been on CNN. Not to mention, I like Asians… ;-)
Comment by Nobody — November 8, 2007 @ 10:33 pm
Actually, Sophia replaced Beth Fisher. Nina left after a contract dispute and was replaced by Sue Manteris.
Comment by John — November 21, 2007 @ 6:35 pm
I miss Sophia, but I’m not too broken-up about her leaving. But if CNN ever loses Robin Meade … (shudder!)
Comment by User Name — November 29, 2007 @ 5:12 am
So What happened to Beth Fisher?
Comment by Me in LV — January 5, 2008 @ 4:25 am
CNN Headline News went from having the best news program
of all, now they are the pitts. Mostly talking about
B. Spears and the other nit-wits. Sophia Choi was the
abosolute best news person they ever had.
Other superior announcers were.
Lynne Russell, Toria Tolley, Helen Casey, and Cindy Close.
Yes I go back a long way, but Sophia Choi was the best one
they ever had, she was no less than magnificent.
Another terrific one is Rosemary Church, haven’t seen her lately. Guess the nerds at Hq disposed of her as well.
Comment by Bill Fowler — January 7, 2008 @ 1:13 pm
Beth Fisher left broadcasting to be a fulltime mother. She is planning on having another baby. She felt the time spent working was keeping her away from her daughter too much.
Comment by John — March 6, 2008 @ 6:14 pm
sophia is now a evening anchor here in las vegas for nbc
Comment by cj — March 10, 2008 @ 3:33 pm
another dumb move!!! she was good and delightful to listen to. Las Vegas has gained a unique news anchor. when i am in town i will tune in.
Comment by nick — September 25, 2009 @ 3:00 pm
Our loss and Las Vegas’ gain… heard she’s co-anchoring the news over there now…. Sophia, you are missed…. Headline news aint the same without you…
Comment by Bigkat — October 15, 2009 @ 2:35 pm
Lynne Russell and Sophia Choi were the best anchors CNN ever had. I miss them both.
