Kristine Johnson departs MSNBC…

Today was Kristine Johnson’s last day on the air for MSNBC/NBC. The First Look/Early Today anchor is departing the Peacock networks to go to work at WCBS TV in New York City. In the interim Dara Brown and Monica Crowley will be filling in on the programs until a permanent replacement is named. (Note: this entry replaces last night’s speculation riddled entry after I got confirmation that she was leaving)

  1. Wow WCBS…good for her. Frankly, I think that’s a major upgrade. Congrats! I guess she must have sensed the trouble brewing at MSNBC and decided to jump the burning ship early…good thinking.

  2. wait… will Monica Crowley be filling in or Monica Novotny?? It would make more sense to me if it were Novotny since she has filled in alot recently.

  5. I’d like to know who thought of her as a rising star? And I also wouldn’t say that she “filled-in” on Weekend Today. She read at the news desk which is done by lots of people. Not one time has she ever co-anchored the program. I’m being kind by not mentioning what I thought of her abilities.

  6. They may be waiting to fill the slot with one of the former FNCers who has to wait out the non-competition clause in their contract. Probably Jan. start date.

  7. I’ve thought for a while that it was misleading (and untrue) for CNN to advertise that it had the nation’s first morning newscast every weekday. They are trying to say that Fox and Friends isn’t a newscast. But they completely leave out First Look. When I’m up that early (or that late), it IS a rundown of the news, it IS live, and til now, it’s had a great anchor. MSNBC’s management has never challenged CNN on their claim, so I assume they’ve forgotten about First Look as well.

  8. Newsbabes, newsbabes and more newsbabes! Now don’t get me wrong, watching TV news is much more interesting than just listening and the babes make do make my newsday immensely brighter. However, are there any men still going into the news reader business? I think they are becoming passe and had better seek other employment. Even punditry is being bettered by the rapid population of puditbabes. It kinda harkins back to that old childhood story of “Little Red Riding NewsBabe”, and the dialogue of “All the better to watch you with, my little pretty.” At any rate, I wonder if journalism schools offer minors in “Tele-prompter Reading”, “Glamour Make-up” and “Sweating with the News Anchors”? They probably should if they don’t already, as Hollywood’s loss is Avenues of the Americas gain.
