CNBC put out a release this afternoon noting that it has been nominated for four Emmy awards; three for “On The Money” and one for “Closing Bell”…

CNBC, the recognized world leader in business news, today received four nominations for the 4th annual Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in business and financial reporting telecast from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006.

CNBC’s “On the Money” (7-8 PM ET), where business intersects with pop culture, received three Emmy nominations and CNBC’s “Closing Bell” (3-5 PM ET) received one nomination.

“We are very excited to be recognized with four nominations for the Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting,” said Jonathan Wald, Senior Vice President, CNBC News. “These awards represent what CNBC strives to accomplish daily—outstanding achievement and coverage of business and financial reporting.”

CNBC Senior Correspondent Scott Cohn received two nominations in the category Outstanding Investigative Reporting of a Business Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast, for his reports on pensions and an alleged environmental cover-up by DuPont and its Teflon product. Lie Now, Pay Later: Your Pension at Risk is a three-part look at the looming pension crisis, and how companies are papering over the problem; A Penalty Sticks takes an in-depth look at the negotiated settlement between DuPont and the Environmental Protection Agency for concealing the potential risks in the manufacture of Teflon.

A nominee in the category Outstanding Coverage of a Current Business News Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast, China Watch, originally broadcast during “On the Money” and reported by CNBC correspondent Mike Hegedus, takes the rare opportunity to get inside some of the largest businesses in China’s Zhejiang province. The feature covers the obstacles, the successes and failures, the foreign investment opportunities and where this super power is heading.

Also a nominee in the category Outstanding Coverage of a Current Business News Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast, Russian Music Wars, originally broadcast during “On the Money” and reported by Preston Mendenhal, illustrates the perils of doing business in Russia today through the story of Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Mike Matthews.

The Emmy Awards for Business & Financial Reporting are presented by the National Television Academy. A total of thirty-three nominations in seven categories were announced today. The awards will be presented on Thursday, December 7 in a ceremony, to be held at the Rainbow Room in New York City.
