October Numbers: Dan Abrams comments…

Dan Abrams sent out an email to MSNBC’s staff this afternoon concerning the October numbers…

Abrams, Dan (NBC Universal, MSNBC)
To: @MSNBC Everyone
Subject: Congrats

I want to congratulate everyone on what was a fantastic month of October for us across the board. Our editorial and technical performance was top notch, and our viewers have recognized that hard work. Not only did MSNBC have its best ratings for the full day since Hurricane Katrina, but we were up 35% from this time last year in the key demo (adults age 25-54) and up 14% among total viewers. Competitvely, it was our best performance since April of 2003!

In Primetime (7p-2a), we were up 37% in the demo, the most growth of any cable channel, and 23% in total viewers. Dayside (9a-6p) was up 30% in the demo and 14% in total viewers while CNN and FXNC were both down. Imus has also been on a roll, up 80% from a year ago in the key demo, his best numbers since April ‘03.

We should all be proud of this progress. More important, as we head into this important election, I am convinced it’s just the beginning. Thanks to everyone and let ’s keep it up!

  1. Very impressive numbers for MSNBC.

  2. That’s a lot better than having your leader talk about your losses during 10th anniversary coverage, ey Fox News?

    Comment by Trudy — October 31, 2006 @ 8:42 pm

  3. MSNBC is heralding their numbers and in the meantime, a layoff and consolidation loom. Good news and bad news.

  4. Good job, Dan and crew! The numbers confirm the improvements at MSNBC.

  5. The only thing MSNBC needs to do now stop giving Tucker 2 hours a day. One hour should be given to Olberman and bring Donohue back (Donohue, Olbermann, Hardball, Olbermann, Hardball) Olbermann is on fire

  6. Trudy, which stories did you read? The 10th anniversary articles on FOX were so positive, I was sick of reading them.

  7. I agree with The Big D. It seems reporters buried the fact that FNC’s numbers are down because every story I read that part was glossed over.

  8. Don’t know who Trudy’s sources or what she hasn’t been reading but I just read FNC marked their 250th consecutive week at number 1.

  9. When you have hit rock bottom, you could only go in one direction - up. Good for Dan. Good for MSNBC. Bad for CNN.

  10. Fox spins the ratings results just like they spin politics. Nothing will help the Democrats more than them trotting out Coulter, Bush, Rice, Cheney, and Rumsfield and giving Hannity more air time.

  11. I think Dan has been sailing on that river in Egypt way too long if he thinks Mess-NBC has anything worth saving. I can’t imagine why he sent out all those e-mail congratulations because I don’t think anyone there even has a computer anymore. I understand they’ve even reposessed the micro-wave. Dan may, also, have to give up his membership at “The Hair Club for Men”.

  12. DAN ABRAMS IS AN IDIOT! HE HAS NO COMMON SENSE, AND WILL DRIVE MSNBC FURTHER INTO THE GROUND. HE ALSO HAS NO MGMT. EXPERIENCE, BUT AT LEAST HE’S OFF THE AIR!

  13. I can’t believe MSNBC promoted Dan Abrams. He’s a moron. He drove his viewers nuts!

    Comment by Cassandra — December 9, 2006 @ 10:40 pm

  14. DAN ABRAMS IS THE WORST! HOW SOMEONE CAN BE SO SMART YET SO SENSELESS IS BEYOND ME. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
