  1. Wow…what’s with that drop from LKL to AC360? Ouch.

  2. Spud, you seem to be getting a tad excited for Olbermann of late.

    Comment by Edward Schatz — November 10, 2006 @ 6:03 pm

  3. Lou Dobbs edges past Brit Hume and beats him quite handily in the demos! How long since that’s happened?

    Comment by Grampa D — November 10, 2006 @ 6:59 pm

  4. I think the reason Lou Dobbs inched ahead og Brit was because all the Democrats wanted to hear about their new leaders.
They were watching more TV than Republicans.
I am not interested in seeing Dick Turban, Charlie Rangle or Nancy Pelosi interviewed, ss would be the case on CNN.

  5. Yikes! Sorry for the typos above!
    Didn’t proof it.

  6. cella, I didn’t consider “Turban” to be a typo. That’s what Rush calls him.

  7. By the way - Both Matthews AND Blitzer DESROYED Shep in the demo…

    Comment by WestCoastBlogger — November 11, 2006 @ 2:30 am

  8. LKL had the 60 Minutes crew, anon, talking about their collegue Ed Bradley. Notice the #s jumped up for LKL, then went back down.
The reason Spud seems excited about Olbermann is that his #s are such a surprise. Two years - even one year ago - even those who really liked him had no idea his #s would ever be this high, much less that Countdown would still be on the air.
As far as Turban Durban and his cheerleaders Lou, Chris, Keith, David Shuster, Jack Cafferty, and many others go, they are on cloud nine right now. It won’t last. They will soon remember how ineffective their new/old leaders are/were.
But going back to Countdown and Keith Olbermann: I have a feeling they might survive and even be the salvation for MSNBC; I think they (CD and KO) might even be able to survive without Bill O’Reilly, believe it or not, if they wanted to.

  9. Cella, you have a better chance of seeing Charlie Rangle on FNC than you do CNN.

    Comment by Terance — November 11, 2006 @ 7:17 am

  10. CNN can’t seem to beat FNC no matter what they do…
spending millions of dollars on their new election set got them razor leads in the demo but FNC still came in #1.
How sad. Jon Klein should be fired for not being able to deliver results time and time again.

    Comment by KOLABEAR — November 11, 2006 @ 10:29 am

  11. Can blame a lot on Jon Klein but don’t think it would matter who was in charge in case. FNC has a following and don’t think viewers will switch unless CNN becomes another mouth piece for Republican party.

    Comment by Anon — November 11, 2006 @ 10:49 am

  12. Expect to see Fox’s numbers slowly but surely diminish as fewer and fewer people find they identify with what passes for ‘conservatism’ these days.

    Comment by Arthur — November 11, 2006 @ 12:51 pm

  13. Viewing habits chage. This will play out way into 2007.
It will be 6 months before we really know what is going
on with the ratings. The Dems don’t control Congress until January 2007. We have not had a full year with the Dems in control of Congress.I am looking to Nov 2007 to see what it actually means. I happen to think nothing is engraved in stone right now. And with the holiday season fast approaching it is to early to tell peoples viewing habits.Doesn’t viewership go down for everyone around Thanksgiving until the end of December. And that is the reason for all the seaon cliffhangers this month. But it was certainly a good week for CNN & MSNBC.
FNC has more to lose it’s # 1.What’up with all the
hate for Jon Klein? Don’t hate the player. In wake of
the ratings this week, why in the world would Jim Walton and Dick Parson fire Klein? That would be the ultimate dummy
move on their part. There is one thing I am interested in
seeing at the end of the year: How many viewers seperate
FNC from CNN and CNN from MSNBC and MSNBC from Headline ? 365 daily snapshots make a year.I do find it quite interesting that FNC has been mighty queit about the election ratings for Tuesday.
Where’s the PR machine? Promos are running all over the place on CNN and MSNBC. Anything is possible. Who thought
everything would move in the Dems favor until the election
results were in ? Results matter not spin. There is no way
to spin this as good for FNC.That is why they are not
even trying. You just move on to the next battle.

  14. CNN may never overtake FNC. WHY? Klein refuses to take the news out of the Cable News Network. Do a comparison and you’ll see CNN does news where FNC is talk radio on tv. I think Klein has a choice to make: Take away the news and switch to talk to get the ratings OR stay with NEWS and inform the viewers.

    Comment by Stud — November 12, 2006 @ 12:14 am

  15. Wrong again Stud. Who does a news update every half hour? And who doesn’t? And talk radio on TV doesn’t seem to have worked so well over at MSNBC.
And FTN: there IS a way to “spin this as good for FNC.” Just look at the Tuesday and Wednesay ratings, then at the Thursday and Friday ones as things go back to normal. FNC couldn’t have spun it better if they were in charge of the script.

    Comment by erljr — November 12, 2006 @ 2:18 am

  16. Who does a news update every half hour? And who doesn’t?

The honest truth is that none of the networks consistently do an update of news every half hour. I’ve seen CNN go hours without doing one on weekends. I’ve seen FNC go an hour without doing one during west coast late prime. And MSNBC isn’t consistent either.

    Comment by Spud — November 12, 2006 @ 7:16 pm

  17. CNN & MSNBC’s numbers were still above normal on Thursday.
All of the 24/7’s should do their own thing.I am a
big fan of non-conformity.None of the been there,
done that, wearing the t-shirt.By the way I was speaking
of the ratings for election night not 2 days after.Of
course all of their numbers will drop from Tuesday
and Wednesday, that’s a given. But am curious to
see if CNN & MSNBC will get a small bump going
into 2007.Remeber FNC’s claim to fame is they
    beat CNN 2:1.
