Family to sue Nancy Grace…

WKMG had the story of the family of suicide victim Melinda Duckett planning to sue Nancy Grace…(via WHAC)

The family of Melinda Duckett is planning to sue talk show host Nancy Grace, claiming the CNN Headline News host contributed to her suicide, the boy’s father told Local 6 News.

Grace came under fire for her aggressive questioning of Duckett on the day before she committed suicide on Sept. 8 as crews searched for her missing son, Trenton.

Grace has remained unapologetic about her questioning of Duckett, saying the woman raised red flags from the very start.

The Smoking Gun has a copy of the lawsuit…(also via WHAC)

  1. Nancy Grace, knew that this day was coming. She kept lowering the bar, every night, on her program.

Someone is finally going to put a stop to it.

Not even Nancy Grace can hide behind the 1st amendment, or claiming her show is for “entertainment purposes” only. I hope this is a wake-up call for this woman, her tramping on peoples basic civic rights, that you cannot, WILL not, go on defaming, slandering and libeling people on your show, and NOT end up having to pay a price for it someday.

    Well that someday came TODAY.

I hope that after all this that CNN/HLN fires her.

  2. I’m no Nancy Grace fan and rarely watch her program, but I’m familiar with her and her tactics.

But this mother was very evasive with her answers to Nancy. And where is the child - he was in the custody of his mother, and he is still missing! Nancy was harsh, but too bad - she wants to know what the mother did with her child!

Sorry, most children to not “go missing” - it is the responsibility of the parents to watch their children and keep them from harm. This child’s mother failed him in that respect, and Nancy, although aggresive in her tactics, was trying to hold this woman accountable.

Where’s the sympathy for the child - God only knows what peril the mother may have put him in!

  3. Wow…lets blame the parents! Tell that to Mrs Walsh. How about the Van Dams? The Smarts, The Lunsfords??

Melinda states she put her son to bed, she was in another room with friends watching movies. When she went to check on him, he was gone, and so was a SLIT in the screen above his bed.

She didn’t OWE Nancy Grace any answers. She had already been interrogated by the INVESTIGATING BODY, the police that were covering this case. Nancy is NOT an investigator, nor does she have the qualifications to interrogate a “person of interest”, in a case.

Nancy and her producers lured this woman on the show, under the guise that Nancy, such a kind hearted woman she is, only wanted to HELP Melinda….to help find her son. When Melinda was being interviewed she didn’t expect an forceful attack and interrogation.

Nancy had stepped over the line this time, and this time she will be made to pay…both personally and professionally.

And I hope this lawsuit goes through, and I hope HLN/CNN fires her.

  4. Anyone who thinks about the situation that has transpired with an open mind can see clear as day NG is not responsible for MD’s suicide.

  5. I think it’s time for Nancy Grace to be accountable for some of her outrageous behaviour on her program however I don’t think this is the law suit to do it.I did see the very aggressive interview and it didn’t sit right with me that they aired it that night knowing Melinda Duckett had already killed herself. Melinda Duckett had major problems before that aggresive interview and for anyone who has followed the story of little Trenton’s disappearance it does sound like Melinda is guilty of either giving away her son or worse. But once again I do believe that Nancy Grace needs to be reined in.I still am appalled at her behaviour towards Angela( think that’s the first name)Ricci. That was just darn right cruel.

  6. This lawsuit, isn’t a wrongful death lawsuit. It’s a defamation/libel lawsuit….

  7. The family is as crazy as the mother was. They just wanna blame someone and want $$$$.

  8. JSMO, I did not mean to imply that EVERY child in peril was put there because of its parents. In the cases you cite, the parents were not to blame. But from what I had heard about this Duckett case, the mother seems to have been complicit, and was not answering Nancy’s questions as to her actions.

  9. Again Missy….Melinda didn’t OWE any explanations, to Nancy GRACE…………she was BROUGHT on the show under the pretense to help her GET the word out to the public of her missing son. Nancy Grace had no BUSINESS acting like an attack dog, nor did she has ANY business interrogating this woman on National TV. Basically NG, had no right to TREAT this woman like she did on her show. Period.

And after the suicide, HLN/NG should of respected the DUCKETT family and NOT aired that segment at all. PERIOD.

But NG/HLN, it’s all about ratings/revenue..under the guise its for “entertainment purposes” only. Nor a care of who they hurt/harm in the process!

  10. Nancy Grace operates under the guise that the world owes her something and uses her own tragedies to justify her mistreatment of others. If nothing else, I hope that this lawsuit exposes her for the hack she is…

  11. I just want to point out that Stud (post #7), for the first time ever, didn’t bash, or even mention, FNC.

  12. Lol erljr, and for the first time I agree 100% with Stud that the family is just out for $$$$$ and I hope they don’t get it.

  14. First thing is NG went after her ex just has hard.So she should have known what she was gonna get into.Second thing is she knew she was gonna be arrested the next day.
Just because you do drugs, your swingers, let anyone work around your house ,do not protect your children- that don’t make you bad parents so lets don’t blame anyone-except Bush and fox news- lol

  15. I’ve seen guests get up and walk out of studios. If the mother didn’t like the questions… she should have gotten up and left, it’s not like these people are chained to the chairs they sit in. Also, if the mother is doing an interview on a crime/tabloid show, she should have known what was coming and just said NO. Why do you think many people refuse to go on O’Reilly? It’s not because they are “hiding under their desks” as he says when someone blows him off, it’s because they don’t think they owe him any answers because they know he is just going to shove words in their mouths… as Nancy did in this case.

  16. Honestly, this legal action does nothing but turn even more attention away from the child, and toward Melinda Duckett and the supposedly grieving family. She and her family are of a breed we see a lot of today: self-centered parents who want to move the center of attention in their own direction. My kids have been invited to many a birthday party where there are 3 or 4 times as many adults as there are children.

Melinda Duckett managed to turn the interview with Nancy Grace into a story, NOT about her child, but about she(MD) herself.
If this story makes it into the history books, it now will be about poor, poor Melinda Duckett, a woman who managed to steal the limelight from her offspring even in death.

  17. Terance: This may be the first time we ever agree!

That Nancy Grace caused Duckett’s suicide is not provable in a court of law. I’m sure the Duckett lawyer’s intention is to grab a quick settlement from the deep pockets of Time-Warner.

  18. i think that ng is a very caring person. she just wanted to get enough info from md so that maybe someone could give
the family some answers as to where little trenton may have been or might be. i don’t think she caused md suicide!!

  19. NANCY GRACE IS AMONG THE LAST HOPE FOR WOMEN …….I want to commend Nancy for her strong, quick minded arguments in reference to various court cases that I have seen televised. As a woman of a toddler, I have stood on the periphery of the issues of motherhood and seen the court system fail women in many ways. To comment on the many ways that women think they will be protected by the court system would be senseless. The law is not about protection but about the political issues, who presents the best argument, who has the most sway, who is brief and doesn’t tie up court time….etc. A woman is blamed for numerous errors in judgement if she chooses a man who fails to meet behavioral restraint. The person who is the easiest to control will be the person who will be expected to change to meet the needs of the situation. I simplify this comment and certainly without enough elaboration I realize I will be misunderstood. But nonetheless, I will only further comment that women need to address their own weaknesses as they will be used against you on numerous occassions. Emotional displays of tears will immediately be construed as overemotional drama and goes against your credibility. So pay attention to this women, Nancy Grace has a strength that is presented in such a way that effectively deals with the world of male dominance. We would all like to believe that we are beyond the barbaric notions of yesteryear and that women are not being suppressed, but note it is truly the women that use this masculine energy in the world of men that survive. If your a smart women, you better find a platform, otherwise your frustration will be in vain.
