The Most, Tucker to be cancelled?

Jossip is saying it’s hearing that The Most and Tucker may get axed…

An insider tattles to us that there have been “lots of closed door meetings” regarding newlywed Alison Stewart’s 3pm show The Most, which debuted in May. Obviously execs don’t appreciate its worldly mix of news and entertainment: We’re told to expect to see it cut next.

Meanwhile, a timeline is arising for the futures of Rita Cosby and Tucker Carlson. We already told you that Rita – who lost her own primetime show Live & Direct – was getting the ax. Her exit from the building, we hear, is imminent. And as for Carlson, whose Tucker has been hanging in there with a downsized staff? A February cancelation announcement is scheduled, says our source. All of this on top of the impending series of layoffs expected at the news channel under NBC 2.0.

UPDATE: An MSNBC insider tells ICN, “The Jossip item is total bs”…

UPDATE 2: TVNewser reveals information suggesting Jossip let itself get played..

  1. Here’s an awkwardly worded sentence: “And as for Carlson, whose Tucker has been hanging in there with a downsized staff?”

Anyway, I like how MSNBC has been using Carlson for a daytime anchor or analyst. If they zap his program, maybe they could at least keep him on staff for commentary?

I know most of you dislike Rita Cosby and her voice. But she seemed to be a credible and tenacious journalist while at FNC, interviewing many political figures here at home and throughout the world. I wish they’d hire her back in SOME capacity - she deserves better than what’s happened to her at MSNBC.

  2. Did I hear Tucker refer to his time slot as “bad” or “poor” or something like that at the end of his show yesterday? (Wednesday, Nov. 29th) That seemed like an ominous comment to me.
Did anyone else hear it? I could have misunderstood.

  3. The official transcript says:

“That‘s our show. Thanks for watching. See you back here tomorrow, same bad time. See you then.”

What he obviously said was “same bat time” as in the TV show Batman. At least that’s what I heard, it makes a lot more sense.

  4. Frankly, I wouldn’t miss any of the three.

  5. Rita Cosby’s first mistake was leaving FNC. I never liked her on FNC however. She claimed to have big interviews and breaking news, but it always seemed to me that her shows contained “old news” by the time Saturday night rolled around.

  6. Olivia…Rita didn’t leave Fox.
    Fox axed her.
She then was hired by MSNBC…

  7. Really? I thought she left suddenly on her own. Hmmm. Axed twice…bad for the self-esteem.

  8. JustStatinMyOpinion, Rita was working without a contract and decided to sign with MSNBC. Where does the “axe” fit?

  9. I heard “BAT time” as well Missy. He should have said “same bat channel.”

I’m with Terance on Rita’s axe, JSMO.

As for Spud’s post, TV Newser posted a tip box entry from yesterday or the day before that he hadn’t previously posted. The same tip was evidently sent to Jossip as well, as the wording is very similar. Besides, wasn’t the Tucker staff given two weeks notice just last week? I’d hardly say they are on a skeleton staff - yet.

  10. I’m not surprised by this. Jossip has been dishing it out on Olbermann for months now. It was only a matter of time before the Empire Struck Back and tried to trap him in something like this. What I do find funny is that the same item was supposedly, allegedly sent to TVN which has a history of butt-kissing MSNBC/NBC. Hmmm. Or is he just there to pile on to Jossip the way MSNBC/NBC no doubt wants?

  11. FNC did not renew Rita Cosby’s contract. Those are the facts!
They got rid of this loser.

  12. I believe that Tucker didn’t make it to same “bat time” today. I briefly flipped from Cavuto and saw Scarborough subbing.

And why is Tucker now wearing a regular tie?

    Comment by Ira — November 30, 2006 @ 8:56 pm

  13. Because he looked creepy with no tie at all, but officially gave up the bow tie.

  14. Looks like tv newser was the original receipient of the bad information, he didn’t take it, and jossip was the back up.
