MSNBC’s Matthews hospitalized…

The Washington Post’s Names & Faces’ Korin Miller notes that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews had been hospitalized earlier this week…

Eyebrows arched Tuesday night when Chris Matthews missed his wife’s WJLA farewell party. Kathleen Matthews told partygoers her husband was sick: Turns out the “Hardball” host was in the hospital.

A source close to the talking head told us yesterday that Matthews, 60, fell ill on Monday. He later checked into a local hospital because of complications from diabetes and has been off the air all week.

MSNBC publicist Jill Schwartz yesterday said, “Chris Matthews was hospitalized this week. . . . He’s doing fine.”

UPDATE: FishBowlDC had this story first yesterday

Last night, MSNBC’s Hardball had their kick off event for the 2008 Presidential election at the Castle at the Smithsonian. The only thing missing was the host, Chris Matthews.

MSNBC’s Vice President of Washington, Tammy Haddad, told the crowd that Chris was in the hospital due to complications from diabetes and he was doing fine and would be home Friday.

Fisk wars…

Johnny Dollar counter-fisks Keith Olbermann/Media Matters for America’s fisking of Bill O’Reilly over comments O’Reilly made on his radio show…

When Olbermann delivered his broadside, we immediately went to Media Matters where, as expected, we found the source for his tirade. It struck us that O’Reilly was recalling off the top of his head a statement he made years ago, yet at the bottom of their piece Media Matters only cited the transcript for one day. Is it possible that O’Reilly did say what he claimed, only not on that particular show? We found what we were looking for on the very next O’Reilly Factor airing, a special Sunday edition. It began with his nightly “talking points” memo:

BILL O’REILLY: But in order to fully win the peace, discipline and order must quickly be imposed by the coalition. There should be martial law, and lawbreakers must be arrested by coalition forces. Chaos always leads to more chaos. If the USA really wants to help the Iraqi people, it must immediately establish a firm rule of law.

Another high ranking NBC Exec departs…

Ad Age Abbey Klaassen writes about the departuree of the President of Sales for NBC, Keith Turner…

Media buyers say Mr. Turner wasn’t a very visible executive in the media. “Keith stays, Keith leaves. Won’t make a difference,” said one buyer who didn’t wish to be named. “They have plenty of qualified people in that company under Keith.”

Indeed, last month after Mr. Falco’s departure, one media buyer told Advertising Age that part of NBC’s problem was too many cooks. “I heard there’s a four-headed monster with [TV Group CEO] Jeff Zucker, [NBC Universal President-Digital Sales] Beth Comstock, Randy Falco and Keith Turner. Now I guess it’s a three-headed monster.” It appears the monster only has two heads left.
