MSNBC’s Appreciation Week…

Yesterday on Imus, as TVNewser noted earlier today, a bunch of “Appreciation Week” notes were read on the air. None of them were genuine. I recieved the video of the segment, via a tipster, last night but it was in a format YouTube choked on. So I had to wait until tonight before I could get it in a format I could post. Here it is, complete with the Appreciation-gram forgerer’s identity. Note: even this video format is less than perfect so expect the video to sputter the first time through. The video runs longer than necessary so you can cut it off at the two minute mark…

UPDATE: MSNBC’s Appreciation Week was real of course. Throughout the week free food and drinks were made available to the staff. The Appreciation-grams were put out for the staff and people would drop them off in a box. The Appreciation-grams were then taken and delivered to their intended recipients. That’s way cool. I wonder who wound up with the most Appreciation grams?

Appreciation Week culminated with an in house holiday get together. It was a laid back affair. Steve Capus, Phil Griffin, and Dan Abrams were there and each spoke briefly to the assembled staff. Prizes were then raffled off.

  1. I had problems w/YouTube as well. It cut out right as Imus answered Amy that Tom Brokaw was probably at some senior retirement home.

  3. It reminds me of the radio news talk shows ( both right & left) where callers, supposedly random, state their views about whatever. It has always struck me as very odd that many, many of these callers just happen to say things that fit perfectly into whatever diatribe the host has planned to aspouse at that moment. These, “ringers”, can be easily spotted by the trained listener as they (and only they) are allowed very suspiciously lengthy amounts of airtime without being potted down or spoken over by the hosts. They blindly, ha, walk right into the traps laid by the host and always wind up looking like clueless idiots. At one time I actually spoke on air with Bill O’rielly during his “Radio Factor” and actually wanted to AGREE with a point he made but I was allowed to get out half of one sentence before he potted me down and began dressing me down. Obviously his screeners thought I was one of the “negative” ringers” they had lined up to appear. Oops. Bill skillfully took my positive statement and spun it into something that was the exact opposite of the point I wanted to make. He did three full uniterrupted minutes bashing things I never even said and the entire time I was trying to talk back with him and explain my point but the public never heard that. I will never believe that all callers are random. The screeners thought they were feeding Bill a scripted “ringer” and they blew it. This Danny Boy Abrahms MESS-NBC bit surprizes me not. It’s all show.
