CNN’s Greenfield responds to criticism of Obama wardrobe discussion…

Following up on CJR Daily’s scathing attack on Jeff Greenfield over the latter’s comparing Barack Obama to the President of Iran because they both like to not wear ties, Greenfield responds and says it was a joke that nobody got…

But just to put the button on it, after looking at past candidates’ wardrobe choices (or malfunctions), I sternly “warned” Obama he might be playing with fire by dressing in much the same way as Iran’s president does.

“You know,” my wife said when she saw the piece, “I wonder if there are people who might think you were serious.”

“Not a chance,” I replied from my decades of experience. “How could anyone possibly take such analysis seriously? Or consider it a ham-handed effort at character assassination?”

  1. Greenfield is an idiot. Let him try to discover some accidental similarity between something Cheney, say, does and something Adolf Hitler used to do and see if the right thinks it’s ‘funny’.

  2. Maybe Jeff needs to read Steve Doocy’s “Mr. & Mrs. Happy Handbook.” I’m sure there’s something in there about listening to your wife…

  3. Put on a tie, Obama…it DOES look creepy for a supposedly serious statesman wannabe.

  4. I’m a huge admirer of Obama and I saw this piece and was surprised at the outcry about it. Anyone who is aware of Jeff Greenfield’s humor should have been able to tell he wasn’t being serious.

  5. You can pick up “The Botched Comedy Stylings of Jeff Greenfield” at your local Jon Stewart store.

  6. Obama is a far left-wing, empty suit. Just another media creation, like John McCain.

  7. Those against Obama show their desperation by attacking his wardrobe or name.

  8. His far-left voting record will speak for itself. Right now, no one knows what he stands for, but they will. I’m just amazed that everyone is so enamored with him just because he gives good speeches, most of which are filled with feel-good generalities and populist fluff.
