Hussein: MSNBC runs Headliners & Legends Hussein episode…

At Midnight while CNN stayed live with Anderson Cooper and FNC stayed live with Greg Jarrett and Jamie Colby, MSNBC opted to re-run a Headliners & Legends episode on Saddam Hussein…

UPDATE: I got email from a viewer who said they thought that MSNBC had put a new taped open on the episode with Lester Holt talking about Hussein’s death. Can anyone confirm?

  1. yes, the opening did have Holt mention that Saddam had been executed. Somebody was thinking ahead.

  3. All the networks have obituary shows finished for major figures. This Saddam show was finished in November when he was sentanced to death… it was updated constantly between the time he was captured until the time he was killed.

  4. Apparently it’s so good they are airing it twice. They did this with Ford too. Blah.

  8. I can’t believe MSNBC had “oddball” on at 8. This would of been an excellent opportunity for them to get new viewers.

  9. Jamie Colby and Greg Jarrett were live until around 2.a.m, then Fox did something incredibly ridiculous - they reran what I believe was Greta’s 10 p.m. program, where Saddam’s imminent execution was being discussed. The problem was, he was already dead and the entire world knew it! I actually did turn over to MSNBC and then to CNN, because any discussion of whether Saddam would be executed was moot at that point.

I apparently went to sleep soon after 2 a.m., so I don’t know how long Fox continued on with the Greta rerun. But it was totally useless. Even MSNBC’s H & L was more pertinent at that point.

  10. I was up for a few hours and saw Greta. I couldn’t believe it. I actually had to turn on CNN (who was running CNNI) to get live news. I was really taken aback that with such huge news only one network was running live news. I believe Greta was on until 3 or around there (it was a long night) but Gregg Jarret did break in with an Alert about the Saddam video. After that they were live until about 4/4:30 when I went back to sleep. It was only on CNNI that they reported a car bomb at the Mardrid airport as well. It was no where else (except the FNC crawl).

I was really surprised to see MSNBC run HL&L about Saddam. It was more like “Saddam, this is your life”.

  11. Jarrett was in a live update about Saddam when he broke in about the Madrid news, around the same time as CNN, I believe.

  12. Yeah it was a bit odd to rerun Greta at that point, but I did see Gregg Jarrett break in several times with live news until F&FW started at 6 am.

  13. The rerun of Greta was preempted several times by live updates with Jarrett.
The Saddam H&L was actually shown earlier - I believe right after Olbermann’s Oddball Special - during the three hour “live special,” but it had all references to H&L deleted, and each segment began and ended with Melissa Rayburger giving updates and recaps.
