Carol Lin’s sign off…

At the end of Saturday’s 10 pm CNN Newsroom they played a highlight reel of Carol Lin. Afterwards she had some closing comments…

Wow, that’s the first time that I’ve seen that…

One of the great writers on my team gave me a card tonight with a photo of a ladder which reaching for he heavens. And it reads…

And a dreamer began to climb…

Nearly four years ago I just wanted a good war to cover and a chance to tell your story. Well be careful what you wish for - I had Kosovo, the Middle East, Afghanistan, and 9/11. And then there was the unexpected battle - and the one that I lost - my husband’s cancer.

So it’s time I tell his story and mine. So many people have asked me, “What’s next?” Well one of the projects is a blog book that will serve as an online investigation into out health care system - who gets the cures and who doesn’t - and the heroes who held our hands. I hope you’re going to Google my name on Valentine’s Day…what a great way to celebrate love. To those Doctors and Nurses - my family…my CNN family…and the third street gang out there…a deep and heartfelt thank you. But there’s still more stories to tell. A check of the headlines after the break.

  2. I’m going to miss Carol Lin’s warm and pleasant personality on CNN. It was always a pleasure to tune in and see her at the anchor desk on the weekend.

  4. Very few people at CNN will miss her. There’s nothing warm or pleasant about Carol Lin. Good riddance.

  5. Hmm..interesting. I’m not a CNN insider so I don’t know what she was like off camera, but she did come across nicely on the air and I guess that’s all that’s important to your average viewer.

  6. It appears that both CNN and MSNBC are getting rid of all the 2nd stringers who make over a certain salary when their contracts are up. I’m seeing lots of new and unfamiliar faces at both places.

  7. As far as Erljr’s message is concerned, could Fox News also be getting rid of all their second stringers any time soon as well?

  8. I think FNC has been getting rid of some second stringers and doing some shuffling.

  9. She was one of the very rare actual outstanding journalists CNN had. CNN still have many many fine news readers.

  10. Carol Lin “a second sringer”. Perhaps CNN treated that way -but she is one of the very few news people who actually undrstands her topics and is an actual outstanding journalist. Really dumb move to let her go. The many very adorable gals left on CNN are “news readers”. A poor trade.
It would be admirable if CNN provided a means to forward congratulations to her for the future anchor desk she will surely have and to extends a thanks and best wishes to Carol Lin.

  11. Was looking ror what happened to Daryn Kagan and stumbled across this on Lin….Fox has been playing musical chairs with some of theirs too. Only they don’t even give a fanfare over there.
