Ford service coverage…

Obviously I can’t blog about the Ford service going on now since I’m at work. So feel free to add your comments about what you like/don’t like about today’s coverage…

  1. I was in and out of the coverage today, but when I turned it on at about 11:30 Tom Brokaw was giving a eulogy. Can anyone clarify why? I don’t know if Tom and Ford were friends (outside of the interviews I am sure they did together) or what. I just found it to be odd. I don’t remember anyone from the media speaking at Reagan’s funeral, but I may be wrong there.

    Anyone?

  2. Brokaw was White House Correspondent during Ford’s Presidency. Must have had something to do that…

  3. This is what I read

“Brokaw is speaking because the Ford family wanted him to. Browkaw and Ford worked on bringing the WWII memorial to fruition.”

  4. Brokaw said President Ford called him personally last year and asked if he would speak at his funeral.

I listened to FNC’s coverage on XM with the streaming video from my local FOX on my computer and the best thing about the coverage is that Brit Hume et al stayed quiet for most of it.

  5. MSNBC stays with coverage the longest. Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews conclude their anchoring at 1:30, Chris Jansing takes over

  6. FNC and MSNBC stopped coverage within seconds of each other.
Brokaw said that he was asked by President Ford to speak at the funeral a year ago. And Tom concluded that he represented the press.

  7. CNN didn’t even show the departure at Andrews!

  8. It appears that Brokaw forgot to use his Grecian Formula!

  10. On another note: I noticed that only MSNBC covered the service in Michigan. Neither CNN or FNC were airing it. MSNBC covered it live. If I remember correctly, all the cable outlets and even NBC, CBS, and ABC covered Reagan’s California service.

  11. jerziegrl: Tomorrow there is another service in Michigan which will include a eulogy from President Carter and the burial.

I’ll be surprised if that is not covered by all.
