Saturday morning on ‘Fox & friends: Weekend’ they announced that Alisyn Camerota had her baby. She gave birth on Thursday to a 8lb. 8oz. baby boy. Alisyn spoke via phone from her hospital bed, saying that they are naming him Nathaniel Andrew and they will call him ‘Nate’.

All the nets turned their attention to the Colorado avalanche west of Denver. MSNBC was first to break the story at 1:33 pm followed by FNC at 1:37 pm. CNN was third, according to Johnny Dollar, but I don’t have their time. An interesting side note was that FNC’s Jon Scott, apparently in the Denver vicinity, called in to talk about the area which he knows pretty well. Also Phil Keating turned in a report, his first since leaving the network to join the Geraldo at Large team. Rick Reichmuth was doing weather and getting info from his brother who’s also in the avalanche area. Feel free to add your comments about the coverage…

UPDATE: MSNBC went back to scheduled tape programming at 4 pm, before the first images and video started arriving in. FNC was first to show still photos at 4:09 pm and first to show video at 4:20 pm. CNN’s first video came in at 4:35 pm.

It’s well documented that cable news skews old, yet the 25-54 demographic is what the networks really fight over. What can the cable news networks do to increase the number of younger viewers? Is there more that can be done to attract these viewers? Or do younger people need to make the effort to be more aware of what’s going on in the world?
