FnF on Steve Capus’ TCA comments…

Fox and Friends discussed Steve Capus’ TCA Tour comments on Bill O’Reilly. In the second hour, Steve Doocy quoted Capus (”pathetic and sad” comment), and adds:

DOOCY: What I think is pathetic and sad, I have a lot of friends who have worked for NBC for many, many decades. And because NBC, their corporate giant parent GE has asked them to make some extraordinary cutbacks, and there’s a good chance, if you have an NBC owned and operated station in your town, they are firing people left and right. I’ve got a whole bunch of friends, on-air friends down in Washington DC, whole bunch of them let go. Anchors, reporters, editors. I know that down in Washington, I heard yesterday, something like a dozen members of Dateline? Beat it! Here’s some money. Now get out. That is what is pathetic and sad, that people will work for a company for 10, 20, 30 years in some cases, and thank you very much, there’s the door.

In the third hour…

KILMEADE: It must have been, though, that when one commentator can get a whole company to react like that, something must have got under his skin, what Bill O’Reilly’s saying.

DOOCY: NBC, with their cable operations, had a huge running start on Fox News Channel. And they had all the money of Microsoft and all that other stuff…. For Fox News Channel to have beaten the NBC cable assets for these many years, that has just got to drive them crazy.

  2. Hey Big Dave, whatever they are, they’re cleaning the competition’s clock.

  3. Tell me Dave Small what channel is TWC on that you so happen to pass FNC? Yeah right hahahaha.

  6. These guys are always commenting on the competition even before the NBC-Oreilly. I remember one time they did a segment from the sidewalk when they asked a young boy that they would give him some money if he could name anyone at MSNBC and the young boy said “that abrams guy”. This was some years ago but FNC has always commented and being real snarky with their comments and I have seen it when it actually backfires on them. Remember the time Doocy went to visit Paula Zahn and gave her a basket with a racoon. What a jerk. The racoon had to do with the Ailes comment.

  7. Exactly #6! I remember the digs at Paula Zahn and also Doocy made some unprovoked comments about Aaron Brown also. Back then CNN used to be their target. Guess it’s NBC’s turn now. Wonder who will be next?

  8. fox and friends are beyond stupid I’ve asked my cable company to remove them from my programming and continue boycott any of their advertisers, they just plain suck.

  9. I got to agree with #5 and #6. Talking down other networks is nothing new for Doocy and Kilmeade. They been doing it for quite some time now. It’s tacky, unprofessional and totally unnecessary.

  10. Whoops! I meant to say #6 and #7

    Comment by STP — January 18, 2007 @ 6:25 pm

  11. STP, is it “tacky, unprofessional and totally unnecessary” when NBC or CNN do it about another network?

  12. Its always tacky when news orgs talk about each other rather than the news. Doocy will say anything to stay on the payroll because his career is over once FNC cuts him loose.

    Comment by Terance — January 18, 2007 @ 6:56 pm

  13. #12, I can only hope FNC would get rid of him and the other (in all respects) idiot along side him in the morning. I don’t know, the weekend gang always seem to, I don’t know, actually seem journalistic and cover actual news, not just yap at each other, not to mention actually having a REAL weather person on hand.

  14. #13 Yeah, FNC has a big problem in the credibility dept. when it comes to weather. They seem to think by having Shep call her the “weather machine” it some how makes up for the fact she is clueless. Its an embarrassment for all the REAL mets out there. And, the guys/gals they use from http://www.wsi.com/ are good. Its a wonder they haven’t just contracted all their weather hits to them.

    Comment by Terance — January 18, 2007 @ 7:35 pm

  15. #11,
    Why wouldn’t it be?

    Comment by STP — January 18, 2007 @ 7:58 pm

  16. Who watches the national news for weather? That’s what the weather channel or local news is for. National news… the weather in Utah doesn’t really effect me here in Conn.

  17. STP, I didn’t say it wouldn’t be, I was just asking what your thoughts were. Let’s just see I’ve seen lots of comments like that directed at one news organization or another, but when similar things are done by a competitor it’s brushed off as funny or endorsed as appropriate.

Personally I wish they would all just let this go and not waste my time with the childish back and forth.

    Comment by OverHere — January 18, 2007 @ 9:19 pm

  18. Sorry, that should say “Let’s just SAY,” not “see.”

    Comment by OverHere — January 18, 2007 @ 10:24 pm

  19. Not sure why you’d even ask as I didn’t say anything about criticizing FNC for talking down other networks while giving NBC or CNN a pass if they do the same thing.

You’re letting some of the other comments you’ve seen here unfairly color my statement.

    Comment by STP — January 18, 2007 @ 10:49 pm

  20. STP, I wasn’t coloring your statement, I was simply asking for your perspective. That’s all. It is possible for a question to be just a question, a request for more information.
