  1. It’s really beginning to look like CNN needs to revamp “American Morning” in some way….getting beat in the ratings to a televised radio show is not good news. I’m sure Don Imus has plenty of fans, but there’s really nothing added to watching the show on TV versus listening to it on the radio.

Perhaps people in the morning seek a more lighter fare than American Morning’s straight news format. Sure, there’s friendly banter amongst the staff, but American Morning is essentially the nightly news in the A.M. Perhaps people aren’t interested in that so early in their day? Or if they are, they can tune into the all-news station on their way to work.

  2. I don’t disagree that AM stinks, but for some bizarre reason, I’ve grown to like Imus in the Morning. The interviews are extended and less formal than the typical “sound byte” type interviews on other cable channels.

  3. ^^ People aren’t interested in Obrien&Obrien unless the news is major.

  4. What do you do…build a big top and produce a circus like that on fnc? AM is the great alternative to us wanting to get informed versus entertained in the morning.

  5. Big Dave:

I’m not suggesting what CNN should do. What I think is in question, however, is that the format (i.e. straight news content) may not be what people are interested in in the A.M. Or, if they are, they can get it all either via newspaper or an all-news radio program. Ratings don’t lie. If CNN wants to remain compeditive, then they will adjust the content on the show, because what they are doing now isn’t working very well. I’m sure they’d prefer to be elsewhere than third place.

  7. BOR & Hannity got hit by the one-two punch of Idol & House?

  8. Arthur, for once we agree!

  9. A radio program on an unwatched cable channel continues to destroy CNN’s (anti) American Morning? When will we see dozens of fawning stories in American newspapers about (anti) American Morning’s “impressive” “ratings”? They do it for MSDNC’s “Meltdown” gameshow. Why not CNN’s (anti) American Morning?

  10. Tom i have seen quite a few of your post now and i’m realising that you never seem to depart from your belligerent musings. Now I would like to know since you constantly refer to them as Anti- american morning, what the CNN morning show has done to hurt america’s interest or incidents in which their anchors have expressed anti-american sentiments on the show. If you cannot provide such evidence i suggest you quit making such charges, lest people will start to take you as just another rabid partisan.

  11. CNN ’s American Morning need to be like it was before the all news show “American Morning” with entertainment segments and lifesyle segments. The really needs a news updater like “The Today Show and GMA” and a weather person in the studio with them. They need the street side studio again.

  12. American Morning can really beat Fox and Friend become they got a new host and viewer are leaving the turning to shows, like “Imus in the Morning.”

  13. What type of ratings does Fox’s new show ‘Red Eye’ get? I’m curious at what kind ratings Fox News gets at 2 in the morning.

  14. To a certain extent, CNN’s purpose is to have an alternative for people who don’t want the goofy bunch on F&F or the old man on MSNBC. Do I personally like it, not really, but apparently they do have viewership.

  15. Can someone decipher Devin for me?

  16. My morning routine doesn’t allow time to sit and watch the fluffy stuff on the morning programs.I tune into AM briefly to get the latest news. Think AM’s low ratings compared to other channels is a result of them catering to a different group of viewers.

    Comment by myview — February 8, 2007 @ 9:49 am

  17. #15 Let me get a crack at it

American Morning can really beat Fox and Friends because they have a new host(Gretchen). Viewers are leaving the channel and turning to shows like “Imus in the Morning.”
