  1. Olby not only smoked Paula, but every single prime time CNN show — both overall & in the demo.

    Comment by Keith — February 8, 2007 @ 8:56 pm

  2. Keith, thanks for dropping by and raving about your own show. BTW, you got smoked by every FOX show, your nememis O’Reilly beat you 3-1, and his re-run spanked you as well.

    Comment by bigred — February 8, 2007 @ 9:19 pm

  3. That is true Red, but your only happy with respect to the ratings when Olbermann comes in 4th place.

    Comment by elmonica — February 9, 2007 @ 12:55 am

  4. No. I’m happy that he’s obsessed w/ O’Reilly, but has never once come anywhere near BOR’s ratings success. It’s hilarious that he even tries to spin his ratings into being equal or better than O’Reilly’s (some Olbyloons who don’t know better actually think he beats BO). To me, it’s comical.

I give him credit for cornering the market on left wing nutjobs.

    Comment by bigred — February 9, 2007 @ 1:07 am

  5. O’reilly has the right wing nut jobs
Olbermann has the left wing nut jobs
Paula i guess has the moderates
    its all gravy
BTW red i would help to actually link us to an episode of CDKO where Keith actually prefesses to having better overall ratings than Bill O’Reilly. Infact i have actually hear him concede that Bill O’Reilly gets better ratings than him, so i dont know how you got the impression that he says he has better ratings than BO.

Another thing how can you talk about obsession without mentioning O’Reilly’s obsessions including: Ted Kennedy, the ACLU, Barbara Boxer,San Francisco and in previous times France and Canada.

  6. The main reason Countdown did so well is that the 7pm Hardball was live(it’s usually a rerun of the 5pm Hardball).

    Comment by erljr — February 9, 2007 @ 1:45 am

  7. erljr - So is hardball now on with 2 different live shows per day? Thanks!

    Comment by Aunt Mary — February 9, 2007 @ 1:59 am

  8. Huh! erljr, could you please explain your comment about Countdown doing so well because of the 7:00 PM Hardball being live. How does a rating of only 495,000 for hardball elevate Olbermann’s rating of 885,000?

    Comment by Mike — February 9, 2007 @ 5:44 am

  9. AM - Hardball occasionally has two live shows when the big story is one that Chris Matthews obsesses over/is fascinated by.
Mike - One of the dumb things MSNBC does is to put two reruns up against CNN, FNC, and HLN. Anyone who turns MSNBC on between 4 and 6pm is likely to change the channel when they start seeing reruns between 6 and 8pm.
A good lead-in is very important in TV land. That’s why FNC doesn’t put Greta on at 8pm and O’Reilly on at 10pm.
“How does a rating of only 495,000 for hardball elevate Olbermann’s rating of 885,000?”
C’mon Mike. Are you really that blonde?

    Comment by erljr — February 9, 2007 @ 9:10 am

  10. Sam, Olbermann brags any time he’s beaten FNC’s repeat (usually, the 3am version) over any fifteen minute segment. In other words, he did it once, when O’Reilly had a sub host. Hey, the loon takes what he can get.

BTW, your rationale concludes that there are anywhere from 5 to 8 times as many righties as lefties.

    Comment by RW — February 9, 2007 @ 10:11 am

  11. I have a friend who actually works in TV, and believes that Olbermann surpassed O’Reilly, because KO talked about it on his show. Of course, he never did, but the way he words things makes those who know better think he did.

Olbermann bashes O’Reilly at least twice a week. Personal attacks, usually. That is obsession. Does O’Reilly mention any of your examples “Ted Kennedy, the ACLU, Barbara Boxer,San Francisco and in previous times France and Canada” on a weekly or even daily basis? NO.

    Comment by bigred — February 9, 2007 @ 1:32 pm

  12. Additionally, O’Reilly’s show is not geared to “right wing nutjobs”. There are a lot of shows that don’t even bring up politics.

Olbermann’s first two segments almost every single night are Bush bashing. That’s why the lefties like it.

    Comment by bigred — February 9, 2007 @ 1:35 pm

  13. Again i will say that yes Olbermann present figures in a way to make his show seem more popular than it rerally is, but i have yet to ever hear him claim that he beats O’Reilly in overall viewers, neither can i recall a time when he outrigtly lied about his ratings. Bigred for you to think that O’Reilly is some fair talking head is simply ridiculous, neither him or Olbermann or Lou Dobbs are objective they all have a prism through which they see and present stuff and while i watch all three shows and will agree with them on certyain issues, i’m smart enough to realise that they are bias and the way they present stuff sometimes neglects nuance in favour of something that goes towards pleasing their points. Additionally you say that O’Reilly’s show isn’t always political, and thats true- but neither is Olbermann’s- whats so political about Oddball or Keeping Tabs, infact while they are an host of issues where i know where Bill stands, they are many areas where i dont know where keith stand- i know he deosn’t like the President and i know he dislikes Bill and Geraldo, but i dont know where he stands on abortion, gay rights, stem cell research, social security reform- as he has never personally expressed them, know i could guess but couldn’t say for sure.

    Comment by Sam — February 9, 2007 @ 2:59 pm

  14. When did I say he’s a “fair talking head”? Of course he has his biases. He’s a commentator. Not a newscaster. At least he admits that. KO still claims he’s an unbiased journalist, which is complete crap.

    Comment by bigred — February 9, 2007 @ 5:05 pm

  15. Hooray, bigred is back! Last exchanged with him/her in November, when s/he was assuring us that as soon as all that election stuff was over, Olbermann’s ratings would go back to swirling around the toilet bowl. Now that it’s turned out bigred is about as good a prophet about ratings as Dick Cheney is about how the war is going to go, it’s nice to see him again. I’m waiting for word that as far as increasing ratings go, Countdown is in its ‘last throes’!

    Comment by Keith — February 10, 2007 @ 1:16 am

  16. Your hero (yourself) finished 4th Thurs night in the time slot. Your ratings have maxed out w/ the the lib lemmings, and your shtick has gotten old. The show ranked 25th last year. It is, indeed, swirling the toilet bowl, where it belongs.

    Comment by bigred — February 10, 2007 @ 1:39 am

  17. Ratings were up across the board big red, and I am willing to bet that the CNN channels did a lot of ANNa nicole talk, which I think raised the ratings for the night. That is why the Day time ratings were so hight for all the networks because people who dont watch cable news, knew that the Anna news would be there.

    Comment by Randy — February 10, 2007 @ 1:55 am

  18. Thank you Randy. I’m aware of that.

Keith, I never went anywhere. I’m here quite a bit.

Has Olbermann ever come close to finishing first in his time slot? No.

Has Olbermann ever once beaten his nemisis BOR (or a sub) in the demo? No.

Has Olbermann ever beaten O’Reilly’s 11pm re-run. No.

Does Olbermann even come close to averaging half of O’Reilly’s audience? No.

Does Olbermann have an ounce of the journalistic integrity he claims to. No.

When he accomplishes one of those things, talk to me about how successful he is.

    Comment by bigred — February 10, 2007 @ 2:39 am

  19. But bigred you need to be honest- and admit that he comes in second most of the time. Infact if you think Ko show is down in the toilet, i would hate to see what you have to say about Paula’s, Nancy Grace’s, Glenn Beck’s, Joe Scarborough’s or even worst Tucker’s. I keep on reminding people that KO has ever said that he has better ratings than O’Reilly, neither do i believe he cares if he is beaten by him or not- KO has been criticizing BO even when his ratings wasn’t half what it is now.
Ohh and he has gotten higher demo numbers than the O’Reilly’s repeat before.

    Comment by Sam — February 10, 2007 @ 11:41 am

  20. What you said back in November was that his ratings would go *back* down to circling the toilet bowl. Hasn’t happened. Haven’t gone back down to where they were, but stayed up. You were wr… wr… wr… um, not right.
