U.S. Senator Barack Obama is expected to announce his candidacy for U.S. President tomorrow, Saturday, February 10th during a speech at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois. What historic speech? Obama is not the first black to run for President.
Love that liberal guilt!

Before you guys start piling on chris for Bias, remember the context in which he said the curse word- he did it as he praised how much he liked rudy (a republican) as a presidential candidate.

Sam - He said “frickin’” again yesterday. And he was talkin’ about Scooter.
What historic speech? Obama is not the first black to run for President.
Just to clarify, (1)he is only half black, and (2)he is not a descendant of slaves.
Nothing wrong with that; but the liberal guilt won’t end with him being elected President. There’s going to be plenty of guilt for a long time to come.

eljr- i dont remember anyone saying that Obama was the descendants of slaves- i dont know how anyone could be able to tell one way or the other if he was. I dont remember any news reporter saying he’s the first black to run for president. and your liberal guilt comment is just odd altogether. My point is that alot of people is talking as if Chris was on the Barck bandwagon- without acknowledging that he’s on the Rudy bandwagon too.

Sam - “liberal guilt” came from Ira. I was responding to both of you. I agree that Matthews likes Rudy.

A few months after Katrina — Matthews was fired up, wanting “ONE” person to be named as the head of recovery on the gulf coast, taking the responsiblity away the local and state “ELECTED” officals. (95% of the Gulf Coast is coming back strong — New Orleans is only a small part with “OLD” pre-Katrina crime problems — Chris like most of the MSM look at the recovery from Katrina as “New Orleans” not understanding what a small part it is). Anyway, Matthews said “THEY NEED TO SEND RUDY DOWN THERE — HE WILL TEACH THEM HOW TO SPELL GIULIANI” — As a southern I was offended at this insult to every leader on the gulf coast. I know I am getting off point and that point is that Matthews said back then and hinted many times since that Rudy needs to be our next president. Chris can not say that now during the polical game or he would not have much of a show for two years.

erljr & Sam: Obama is at a minimum, the sixth black (or half-black) to run for President in the last 20-35 years.
This morning on FNC, Chris Wallace labeled him as the first black “serious” candidate which has to be an indirect slap at Jesse Jackson, who won a few primaries in 1984 (or was it 1988).

I agree Ira. I was adding to what you said, not disputing it. My point was that the “liberal guilt” you wrote of could have been satisfied if Sharpton, Jackson, or any of the others had made it to the White House; but it won’t be satisfied by Obama being elected. He was raised in a white, upper middle class environment. His parents split up and his father moved back to Kenya when he was only two years old. He’s not from Illinois. He was born in Hawaii, and grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, from ages 6-10, and Hawaii before and after that. He didn’t live in the continental United States until he went to college in California. Jackson, Sharpton, and the others can all say they grew up in black America. He can’t.
