Tuesday’s Numbers…
On the Record with Greta Van Susteren had the highest Demo number last night. It was big enough that it beat AC 360’s Total Viewer number (360 had Roberts and Chetry filling in). MSNBC came in 4th behind HLN in the Primetime Demo.

It was John King not John Roberts who was co-hosting AC 360 on Tuesday.

I thought Kiran was such a catch!
Comment by Noelle — February 22, 2007 @ 1:30 pm
yeah, Noelle, but it’s hard to compete with a decomposing corpse.

Nancy Grace is on a roll this Feburary beating CNN and MSNBC.
Comment by Devin — February 22, 2007 @ 1:36 pm
I can only imagine the topic of Van Susteren’s program last night. Not a missing blonde, but a dead one, I bet.
Comment by Pete — February 22, 2007 @ 1:39 pm
I am not sure the Anderfans are warming up to Chetry.
John King has anchored solo before for 360. Some Anderblogs
do not like the co-anchor thing. Although it wll be interesting to see if Chetry will be doing the 360 news
bulletins.Fans were finally geting used to John Roberts
filling in for AC. I still think the jury is out on
Chetry. She is not a big name like Diane Sawyer or
Katie Couric so her impact will not be know for months.

ANS is helping FNC and MSNBC get the numbers. If you notice it’s all ANS all the time. CNN on the other hand is moving along reporting on it…and moving to something else. That’s what it deserves. And for some reason people are intrigued by the ANS soap opera.
Comment by Me — February 22, 2007 @ 2:18 pm
Arthur, So that’s the excuse today for Anderson/John/Kiran low ratings? What was the excuse yesterday, the day before and what will it be tomorrow?
Comment by Noelle — February 22, 2007 @ 2:26 pm
Same ol’, same ol’, Noelle - people would rather hear about the dead body of ANS than news that might actually, you know, effect their lives in some way.
Comment by Arthur — February 22, 2007 @ 3:28 pm
# 8 I don’t think anyone is making excuse. Everyone
knows 360 ratings dip without AC. I know people who
will not even watch the show if Anderson is not on.
They have got find a way to get him to do more of the
show live. Somehow I think AC could get away with leading
with Iraq instead of ANS and get big numbers. Last night
Chetry kept repeating Anderson is on his way back from
the Amazon. Don’t forget about Amderican Idol. One day in the
ratings mean little. I for one am glad that CNN is
scaling back the ANS coverage. It will be interesting
to see the numbers for Weds later today. MSNBC, FNC and
Headline devoted a lot of time to the hearing while
CNN went with news. Also, a pretty much Anderless 360.
Comment by futrue tv mogul — February 22, 2007 @ 3:31 pm
I don’t know about the 360 ratings dip when AC isn’t on. I have seen ratings that were better with a sub than when AC is hosting. I like 360 and will usually watch no matter who is on.
Comment by Lori — February 22, 2007 @ 3:49 pm
I think its all about live tv in the court room just like when the tv stations go to a police car chase and we see a white SUV going down the road with a *star* in side of it, all America stops and rubber-necks.

Terance (wherever you are): O’Reilly and H&C were each down about 500,000 down from Monday night while Greta was steady.
To paraphrase James Carville: “It’s the “American Idol” factor, stupid!”
Comment by Ira — February 22, 2007 @ 4:48 pm
Greta is doing the same subject as everyone else is. She just does it alot better>
Comment by bud — February 22, 2007 @ 4:58 pm
Ira, I don’t doubt that Idol takes viewers away from FNC. I just wish you could give some credit to one of my favorite shows, Heroes! (which airs Monday nights at 9pm on NBC)
Comment by Terance — February 22, 2007 @ 5:06 pm
greta again had highest demo on Wed. night. Also doing the same subject as everyone else
Comment by bud — February 22, 2007 @ 5:26 pm
Sometimes there are higher ratings on 360 when there’s a sub and sometimes not; overall, there really isn’t much of a difference. I prefer to watch when AC is anchoring.
Comment by Marty — February 22, 2007 @ 5:42 pm
Countdown’s numbers are down because of the ANS showdown. Keith’s refusing to buy in and it’s showing. 4th place consistently will Orally, Zahn and Disgrace are at ANS OVERLOAD.
Comment by Andy Marquis — February 22, 2007 @ 5:55 pm
ANS was the #1 story on Countdown last night. He’s done the story every single night since it happened.
Comment by bigred — February 22, 2007 @ 6:25 pm
Bigred, it’s impossible to debate with OlbyLoons. They are convinced that there is always some other reason that Countdown does poorly - never Olby himself.
Comment by Edward Schatz — February 22, 2007 @ 6:27 pm
ANS was the #1 story on Countdown last night. He’s done the story every single night since it happened. by bigred
While you are correct, it was the “#1″ story, the #1 story is always done in the last few minutes of the show and is typically something humorous and something that KO makes fun of. His #5 story is always the top story and always leads off the show. The only time he made ANS the lead story was the night she died. Even then, he only devoted one segment to it.
You guys always going on and on and on about how ‘poorly’ he is doing is pathetic. He is the #2 cable news show. Period. Yes, sometimes he finishes in third or even fourth place on any given night, but not a single ad is sold based on how a show does on one night when there are approximately 250 shows a year on (not all live obviously). When you look at December’s and January’s numbers, Keith is 70k - 100k viewers better than Paula Zahn in total viewers and 50k more than her in the 25-54 demo.
February might be a different story since, contrary to what bigred & Edward Schatz have said, KO has not focused on or covered ANS other than the last few minutes of each show. Nancy Grace has been her usual grotesque, gruesome and ghoulish self and it is serving her well under these circumstances.

I want to clarify - #2 cable news show @ 8:00.
Comment by Shaun — February 22, 2007 @ 7:27 pm
Shaun, based on the 2006 ratings, Olbermoron has the #26 cable news show… And based on this month in his time slot, he has the #3 or 4 show, both overall and in his demo.
February is a sweeps month, too…meaning ratings mean a helluva lot more this month than they usually do.
Comment by bigred — February 22, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
I have to agree with Shaun. If KO covered “breaking news” (while I don’t consider ANS breaking news, the nets obviously disagree with me) instead of having that lame “countdown format”, he’d get more viewers when everyone else’s numbers spike… But, by basically only devoting one segment or none, you can’t expect to get those viewers who want the story. And whether they’d come back when it was a “typical” KO show, I don’t know. So, basically he’s hurting himself by essentially “turning away” those who are looking to “feed” off the latest celebrity scandal.
Comment by Terance — February 22, 2007 @ 7:40 pm
Unless things have changed very recently cable news networks aren’t part of the whole sweeps thing.

LOL, does that mean that ANS dying is a sweeps stunt. Honestly, I could almost buy that with all the lunacy that has occurred so far.

Comment by bigred — February 22, 2007 @ 7:38 pm
You are correct in this, but he started pulling in much better numbers in the second half of the year. His numbers for all of ‘06 are significantly lower than they are now (on a monthly basis) because his show kept picking up steam all throughout the year.
Comment by Shaun — February 22, 2007 @ 8:08 pm
Terance: Except for “American Idol” and maybe the Thursday night 9pm ET combination of “CSI” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” none of the broadcast prime time shows really impact the cable ratings.
Comment by Ira — February 22, 2007 @ 8:31 pm
Ah, it’s cable news…sweep months dont pertain to them. only your local news. and kudos to cnn for not going wall to wall with anna nicole smith. it’s a tabloid story!

Incorrect. Sweeps apply to cable, broadcast, everyone. And it’s not just NEWS. It’s all shows.

Great researching job… except O’Reilly (I think you made a typo there) didn’t talk about ANS until the absolute last moment of the show, saying “Thank God I didn’t have to talk about her again tonight.”
Before you begin your praise of KO, insults of everyone else… you should probably actually check to see if what you WANT to say is true… and not just your own invention.

View, every single show on television is part of sweeps, 4 times a year, in February, May, July and November. It’s now new. Every channel is competing this month for more viewers so they can get more advertisers and more money.
Feel free to check out articles in say, Broadcasting & Cable, if you don’t believe.

Not new, that is.
