Beck vs. Olbermann: Beck responds…
Tonight on Glenn Beck at the end of the program Beck went after Keith Olbermann in a big way in response to his Rolling Stone interview and the comments Keith made about Glenn eventually self-destructing by going too far…
If I’m going to be shut down for that, well it’ll likely be because of an intolerant ideologue like Keith Olbermann. The very idea smacks of the same McCarthyism Murrow fought so valiantly against. Hey Keith! You’re not saving the world’s democracy, you’re killing it my friend by trying to limit the marketplace of ideas to only those that reflect your own. Me personally? I surround myself with varying points of view. My staff?….blood shooting out of their eyes liberals….conseravtives, men, women, minorities…and…you know, it’s wierd…I don’t need a mailbox outside of my office to communicate with them.
oops…
Did I say that?
When you make pronouncements as bold as “the man who sees absolutes where all other men see nuances and shades of meaning as either a prophet or a quack”…you better be a prophet man. Y’know…
And frankly Keith…nah…you’re not really a prophet. I’m just saying.
UPDATE: Olbermann Watch has the video…

Beck was HOT tonight !

Fabulous! I applaud Glen Beck, the only one who will actually stand up against this oaf. How in the world can KO respond to what is the absolute truth about him. Will be interesting..I am going to watch it again on the repeat tonight just to enjoy and savor it one more time. Atta Boy, Glen.

Interesting comeback. Didn’t really deny the accusation though. Beck is maybe one or two steps removed from Michael Savage, in my honest opinion. Having said that, I do appreciate his forthcoming nature. More power to you, Glenn. Go on with your bigotted self :)
Comment by Keyser Soze — February 27, 2007 @ 11:23 pm
Cnn has scrubbed and cleaned Beck up for a mainstream audience as best they can, but eventually he will slip again and call Katrina survivors scumbags, or says he hates 9/11 victims. I just wonder why their wasn’t the same level of outrage directed against CNN or ABC as there was directed at NBC over Arkin?
Comment by Steve — February 27, 2007 @ 11:33 pm
If you actually ever listened to Beck’s radio program Keyser or Steve ( I know you haven’t ) you would know the exact context in which he referred to in those statements. Beck is about as far from a bigot as you can get. You have to actually listen to him, and not read the blue blogs for their slanted opinions.

I don’t think you will see this little blurb over on Brian’s TVNewser. Him and Keith are ole buds. At least you won’t see it without Brian’s little smart ass follow up remarks.
Comment by Jim — February 27, 2007 @ 11:53 pm
Actually jim i heard when he made a few of his acerbic comments, and they all struck me at the moment as being insensitive; one shouldn’t have to have somone point out something to you for you to know its insensitive. The question he asked to keith ellison was particularly offensive, and i dont how anyone could defend it. I also remember an episode in the midst of the whole egyptian student visa debacle in which he made some insensitive “jokes” about the student’s.
Well we can all expect for Ko to give an equally scathing response to GB and for GB to respond in kind and for this thing to continue for about 2-3 weeks spawning minor ratings boost for both of them.
Comment by Sam — February 28, 2007 @ 12:05 am
Having listened to Glen for years on radio, you get to know him fairly intimately. You know exactly where he is on every subject. Insensitivity he is on occcasion, but Keith is way off base in his criticism. And I doubt if Keith would dare trying to defend himself against Glen. He will lose big time. Sort of like Keith’s defense against Mark Levin. Total silence.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 12:14 am
I think the bottom line is Keith attacks other journalists/commentators nightly. And usually very personal attacks, saying they are fat, or idiots, even ugly. Usually misquoting them to boot. He even attacks those on his own cable channel - good old Rita Cosby for one. And almost always because of non-liberal viewpoints. I think his nightly targets are finally getting tired of his childishness, and are fighting back.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 12:22 am
Jim — I agree, I have commented on this blog about Mark Levin’s come back at Keith for naming Levin WPITW and miss quoting him. I said Keith will “NEVER” name Levin WPITW again as he “DOES NOT” want the type pulicity that Levin gave him.
Comment by Aunt Mary — February 28, 2007 @ 12:35 am
Spot on Jim!
Nightly attacks on his show just has to mean some deep seeded insecurity.
And you would think the new contract would bring a somewhat stable tone from him.
Comment by puck — February 28, 2007 @ 12:37 am
Aunt Mary I don’t know if Levin is friends with Glenn Beck. If he is Mark should invite Glenn on. Keith does that hour with Dan Patrick from the same building Levin does his show.
Is there any bathtubs in that building for Keith to hide in?
Comment by puck — February 28, 2007 @ 12:50 am
Jim:
Also recall that KO has never responded to the smackdown Imus laid upon him either. KO is good at dishing it out from his desk and with the help of the blue blogs, but he can’t take it. And instead of fighting back, KO usually avoids discussion of it until the blue blogs tell him what to say.
Comment by eddiebear — February 28, 2007 @ 12:52 am
I’m sorry… Didn’t Olbermann name Levin Worst Person over the Limbaugh nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize? Where was the misquote? I’m honestly curious.
Comment by Keyser Soze — February 28, 2007 @ 12:55 am
I don’t think he even writes his own special comments. I heard some of the far left blogs provide the scripts for him.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 1:05 am
I said usually misquotes them. Cheesh!!
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 1:07 am
It’s interesting that since Levin hit back..and hit hard, KO has not mentioned his name. Is Glenn Beck WPITH tomorrow night?
Comment by bigred — February 28, 2007 @ 1:13 am
Oh how I wish I could get a video of this. Nothing better than someone smacking Olbermann around. That guy is the biggest coward on the planet. Great Thanks, Glenn.
Comment by Edward Schatz — February 28, 2007 @ 1:14 am
I lost any respect I had for Glenn Beck over his interview with representative Keith Ellison. You know, the one where he said he wanted to ask “How do we know you arent working with the terrorists?”

“You’re not saving the world’s democracy, you’re killing it my friend by trying to limit the marketplace of ideas to only those that reflect your own.”
oh please - why do people TALK like this. “You’re killing it, my friend”? Who writes his stuff, Captain Adventure?

“oh please - why do people TALK like this. “You’re killing it, my friend”? Who writes his stuff, Captain Adventure”
No, I think he writes Keith’s special comments.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 7:42 am
Olbermann and Beck are alike in the fact that both will self destruct on air one day.Just a question of when.
Olbermann is a bully who will attack and attack until you stand up to him.Mark Levin calls him a sex offender and said KO is hung like a thumb tack and olbermann doesn’t respond?I would be surpised if Ko goes after Beck again.
Makes you wander if BOR and fox would go after KO would KO stop attacking them?
Comment by phil — February 28, 2007 @ 10:37 am
I’ve been saying here for months that Countdown has the most compelling opening of any cable news show, and that Countdown would not only survive Olbermann’s departure, but prosper with a different host. Doe anyone want to challenge me on that?
Sam - you wrote on another post about Olbermann’s and Grace’s “righteous indignation.” Well, nobody does righteous indignation like Glenn Beck. Listen to his 20 minute long rants on his radio show at the beginning of every hour. No one shows us passion like Beck.

I heard it right here on this site from an anonymous source. Wow, I can cite anonymous sources just like a real journalist.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 3:07 pm
Just watched the video. That was possibly the greatest thing I’ve seen in my entire life. Glenn Beck is my new hero.
Comment by TBDave — February 28, 2007 @ 3:24 pm
Has anyone ever found out the details of KO’s contract?
How much money did he get?
“He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up.” (Paul Keating)
Comment by cella — February 28, 2007 @ 3:34 pm
No but Jim in post #25 alleged that Olbermann’s special comments were written by ‘far-left’ blogs. Quite different to where he sources his WPITW.
Comment by Mr A — February 28, 2007 @ 5:18 pm
Somehow, I knew the venom spewed at KO would increase along with his ratings and notoriety. Grow up!
Comment by Ms, Quote — February 28, 2007 @ 6:38 pm
I think the venom spewed AT KO is directly proportional to the venom spewed BY KO.
Comment by Jim — February 28, 2007 @ 7:17 pm
Beck is mormon and Beck has suffered from Attention deficit disorder. That should explain why his show gets so strange at times. But overall, he is interesting. I said it once, I’ll say it again, even thought I am not in favor of Bush or some republican agendas, I could care less of Olbermann. I steer clear of him. His show is just a rehash of everything one can learn from eith watching nightly news or The Fox Report or The Situation Room or just any MSNBC News show during the day.
Comment by brettfan — February 28, 2007 @ 8:50 pm
I actually listen to Beck on radio and watch his tv show sometimes.
Comment by brettfan — February 28, 2007 @ 8:52 pm
Olbermann had it coming since he bashes basically everyone, but his own MSNBC and NBC news people, which is baised.
